Hello.
I just completed my olvls last year and my raw score are 12 and 9 respectively, cca pt: 2. I applied for nafa scheme under moe, but im afraid of not getting in. So.. I need a backup plan which is a course in poly. Apparel design and merchandising is the only thing that i can think of myself. I'm quite interested in optometry too. Should i go for it? Please tell me more abt it. Like the careers and the pay. Please help, i gotta appeal soon. Thank you. My favourite thing is art(btw).
p/s: don't tell me to go jc
p/s/s: other suggestions(courses) welcomed.
Think you already had your plans covered.
And if all else fails, consider ITE.
At least can learn to sew which will help in your designing later.
ie. take ITE, redo your O Levels, or proceed to Poly from there.
it depends on your portfolio right??
really? i know abt the portfolio for nafa. but you see, theres an entrance test which you have to draw on the spot den go for an interview. But NOW, i'm still waiting for slowpoke moe to shortlist ppl! The portfolio is needed for the interview but the admission to nafa isnt all dependent on the portfolio.

hmm its art teaching rite? u took arts for o lvls? a good portfolio is a very big plus.
I'm planning to use my olvls artworks for my portfolio. But its no gurantee that they will shortlist me in the very first place! So what about my backup?
a friend mentioned to me, that she helped out at a NAFA audition thingy before.
Its ridiculous when folks there submits artwork, like glitter on glue stuffs.........Or uses geometric rulers or some kinda device to draw a perfect circle.......or any kind of handicraft work.
And stamps, or any other materials glued on is a No no.
if u got at least a B should be gd. i would like to think that optometry is a good choice... since i applied for it too

passion alone is not enough..
i got an a2 for my art
your chances should be gd... suggest u go add more personal works to your folio
Start building up your portfolio. It helps. A lot.
How about Lasalle? Lasalle is portfolio interview, no entrance test.
TP Design school - Visual Comm. (cop is now very very low, probably the lowest of all courses, can be compared to the Law course there. Not easy. But then your score should be no problem.)
What do you want to major in? Which fields? Fine arts, Communication design or?
From your description, Fashion Merchandising is it?
Since your interest lies in Art, what for optometry?
Which is deeper, then you choose that one.
SIAO.
There is always Laselle
Optometry is a stable skill..
Its just like being a dentist or a lawyer, just that the two latters offer higher stable pay than an optician.. However its still good.. With most of the Singaporeans getting spectacles and lenses due to the high activity of computer usage so on so forth.
Apparel design and merchandising is fine. However, i can tell you safely for a fact that, for every optical related shop there is in Sg, there is probably around safely 50++ fashion merchandise shops. Hence, its kinda like an uber competitive industry you are planning to enter.
If you like art, there are really much other alternatives. Perhaps you could try teaching art as a profession. If you're unsure, you could always try it out first by doing relief teaching. Check the MOE webby for details.
I would recommend optometry. It is after all, a skill which you WILL definitely have to study and practise to obtain. Looking at the bright side, you are helping people to see clearly. So both morally and practically its the better option.
Whichever path you choose, i wish you all the best. Good luck!
I do fine arts. Bt if i suey suey cnt get into the moe teaching scheme, which poly course mentioned above can lead to a uni in singapore?

not optician.... it's optometrist
no local uni offers degree in optometry.. only sp do with the uni of manchester. if u really wan to go the designer path... unless u are really good yr pay will be so so. + the horrible long hours.
what about visual communication?
hello, anybody there?
hmmm are you intending to enter nafa's fine arts course? :P why not try lasalle as well, more alternatives :)
