The real reason why many Singaporeans are poor, stressed, overworked, face increasing costs, late in marriage, few in childbearing....is....due to...
85% of the population being landless peasants.
There is no difference between landless peasants toiling in farmfields in past centuries and landless peasants toiling in office fields in today's era.
Wealth must pass from generation to generation through capital ownership.
Land ownership is very important, but 85% of the population is basically locked in and fated as landless peasants, forever being working-class peasants and cannot be capital owners.
This is the truth.
The surface sophistication is only a mirage and illusion, but many people are suffering and stressed and face increasing cost of living, because of this social constraint.
In history comparison, we can say 85% of Singaporeans are landless peasants, 10% are landlords and noblemen, and 5% royals.
Please let me know what you think.
that is not the real reason.
and most singaporean is NOT poor.
tell me you are poor if u are digging rubbish bin for food.
u have no idea what is poor
Opps, sorry, I didnt mean poor as in "poverty".
Although there are some people who fall into this category and cannot afford to eat 3 times a day, but I agree the majority is not like that.
In fact Singapore system is quite good in elevating the living standards of the peasantry class.

Don't flatter yourself by comparing to real peasants, we live nowhere near their standards.
Are you sure 15% of Singaporeans are 'land-owners'?
Anyway.. why many Singaporeans are
1.poor
Too many bills.
2.stressed
There's just too many bills.
3. overworked.
Too many bills to be paid. Must work.. must work..
4. face increasing costs
Hell yes!
5. late in marriage
Busy working and saving money to pay bills.
6. few in childbearing
1 child = many more bills to come! <-- Exponential problem in waiting!
Cheers~!
On a serious note, noone is really poor -- it all depends which currency you're counting. Eg.. some of us are extremely rich in the currency of friends/love -- these are the real wealthy people. ^.^
Eh....why this topic moved from Chit Chat huh...?
Anyways, I say "peasants" to represent the proletariat/ the people.
I read some books which say the society is divided by land ownership, consists of landlords and landless peasants.....And the wealth need to be passed down from generation to generation and the key of that wealth transfer is the land. That is the capital and that is wealth.
And actually in Singapore context the landowner class maybe actually lower than 15% considering that not all private property are freehold but some are 99 years, which means the capital and the wealth is very heavily taxed and upwardly extracted by the state and not easily passed down to the next generation in accordance to natural forces.
I think this also has something to do with marriage statistics and birthrate statistics being low because this is a form of social constraints. Of course, one can go into more details into this.
Please let me know what u think.

the rich will not understand the poor.
I have many times saw people digging the rubbish bins.
Read more books.
The beauty about our world is that noone is born identical -- not even twins!
As such, everyone has different abilities, thus different needs. IQ perhaps may determine how wealthy one can get, but when you think about it, some rich gets richer because some believe that there's so much more to be attained, while some poor remain poor because some are just content with what they have and have no need for anything other than to fill their growling tummy.

Btw in Singapore's context, one doesn't really own anything do they? Houses? 99yr leases. Cars? Renew COE or its gone after 10years. Land? Haha, this one I don't know man.
So, are those who own houses and cars really rich or just rich for the time being? (Another rhetoric question by yours truly. Heh.)
Dig from rubbish bin is no big deal. Eat from rubbish is what we call poverty. There is no poverty in Singapore by world standards.
Most of the money locked up by the government, not much money circulating in the economy. ![]()
Think Singapore's MPS must be around 30% to 40%. ![]()
in terms of quality of life Singaporeans sure aint so rich, with all the stress and competition and pressure to perform etc. in order to survive. And especially with the government making it worse by encouraging all that craziness for the sake of its narrow minded autistic goals
I think one will find it very difficult to enjoy life constantly burdened by the pressure to outperform his peers

Well, its just that you too might have been another victim of the state controlled propaganda filled media.
There is poverty out there in sg. Its either you're too ignorant or stuck up to accept it.
