Just the wedding dinner alone, i have no idea how many people i will invite, but if held at a hotel or restaurant, each table would come up to about 800? On top of that, i must still give ang bao, photographers, photo shoot, wedding bands? did i miss anything out? i dont really need to know the exact details, but is 30k sufficient?
Probably just renovate as i should be staying with my parents.
No offence, but you're only 14, and you're already thinking of all this?
I'm 26, and I'm getting married in early 2011. And only now am I working out all these nitty-gritty details. Go figure.
There's nothing wrong in having a long-term view of things, but you're looking at things from too far out. You're really sweating the small stuff..... no, you're sweating the microscopic stuff.
Not everything is in your hands, and there's only so much that you can (and should) be worrying about. Cross the bridge only when you actually get to it.
Like Rockhound has so succintly said, if you're already seeking all the answers to all the questions in your life, then it's gonna be a really boring life.
If you want an easy life:
1) Don't put marriage into your plan. Successful men 'usually' marry later in life.
2) Try to plan to leave singapore and work elsewhere, evaluate the conditions overseas then see if its beneficial to migrate.
3) Get all the studies done in singapore. You may want to take masters overseas but in SG, bachelor degree is essential, work for a least 1~2 years to learn real skills from school of hard knocks.
4) Don't sweat too much early in life, you could still enjoy your 'later childhood' and still able to meet your goals with a definate roadmap.
If you have commitment or you want something else:
Don't listen to me.
If you are worried about amount, just keep saving as much as you can. Money is something you will never have too much of.
There is no point worrying about future jobs because noone knows the economy at the time you graduate and start to find work. During bad economy, everyone has a hard time finding a job and vice versa. Sometimes you can consider taking a lower paying job 1st while continue to search for a better job so that you won't be eating into your savings.
If you plan to be a businessman, you require experience, knowledge of market etc etc, quite different from what you study in school. Furthermore, all you need is alot of money and not really alot of paper qualifications.

I’ve noticed that there are a number of people out there with diplomas, or even graduates in their 30’s are unable to find a stable job and have to scrimp and save up for years just to get married, or get a house. Is this because the cost of living here in singapore is getting higher, or is it due to their personal mindset and are unwilling to change or are being too inflexible, or are all the jobs opportunities being taken away by foreigners(I highly doubt)?
Lets say that i will get my high school diploma in 3years, by that time, i would be 17. After which, do i have to take NS or will i be able to defer it, as i have plans to enter university thereafter. Would you recommend our local universities or those abroad. With those certificates, what jobs will i be applicable for? Or would you recommend that i further my studies after that(money is not a big problem, it’s just the time and whether it’s worth it)? Im totally clueless on the procedure.
Suppose i finish my studies by 24, how long will it take for me to get a job? Im hoping to settle around 28 or early 30’s(Is this an average age to get married?). How much would an average wedding cost? i estimate it to be between 20-30k all together, is that sufficient? I believe accommodation is not problem, as i am the only child in the family. Perhaps some renovations and new furniture, how much would that cost(HDB)? What would be the approximate monthly bill inclusive of, electricity, water, h/p, broadband, did i miss anything out? If I were to get a car, how much will the average upkeep cost?
Really hoping for your valuable replies, as i am pretty stressed out. Please give me some constructive answers, as i am trying to calculate how much i need to save by the time i am 30. Thanks
PS. Am i thinking too much too early or is this good?
you are only 14 years old think too much
Think too much is actually good, makes you more cautious in life, but TRY NOT TO GET CONNED by people who prey on fear and greed...
There are alot of these 'evil' people around.
Know that you are paranoid, know that people can take advantage of your paranoia, you'd prolly escape less evils in life.
There is such a situation about 'try not to get conned'?
I must be really impressed with the 'try not to get conned' logic.
So infinite......
Its just a joke xD

Actually more than just a joke.
Some insurance companies and their agents (had to generalise sorry).. actually target people who are less confident in life, especially younger peeps.
Well, older peeps also get sucked into the same old (maybe they volunteered for it but younger peeps have more fantasy xD):
1) Financial Freedom
2) Freedom of working at any time you want.
3) Freedom of owning business.
4) Sustainable business (esp for insurance).
5) There is always the need for the product (life insurance xD)
Basically the idea is that they sell the idea that YOU (I mean YOU) can control your financial life, and the more clients you get during your stint as insurance agent, you gain more money as times goes by!!!!!
}
Stop(Jokes)
Am I missing a beat?

Not really.
Though I cannot imagine TS living to even the ripe old age of 25 years old, should he burst a few veins for not being able to move along to the beat of his plans.
-delete because of stupid and irrelevant comment -

I can't imagine him at my age.
I can't imagine how he currently got his money.
Allowance? Inheritance? Working part time job now while studying?
Why can't TS enjoy as like a teenager should? He will miss all the fun.
Hope he don't regret.
woah, 14 yet feeling so uptight with stress.

Looking at how TS is posting. He is going thru a very awkward phase right now.
Its a point where he still is working out whether he should be 'grown up' or 'childish' about his future.
What TS does not understand, when I suggested taking on lessons in alternative stuff and changing his mindset to one not so generic is for him to consider that having fun, while doing alternative stuff for his future is only as 'immaterial' because he is still trying to think with his still growing maturity.
I cannot push what I recognised as to how I had became a adult even before I was 14 years old.....on someone who cannot understand my regret.
Though....I do not regret being identified as someone who is 21 years old even though I was 14.
But I wished I've chosen a better path, then listened to my mummy.

Your 'mummy' sounds evil.

I was making money at 15 but never think of so many things like TS did.
Still at 77 I'm playful.

times are different now.
last time, even me 13+ year old can work part time at airport serving food and drinks from behind the counter.
Now hor.....kids want to work part time, need to be above certain age, or at least have certs to prove capability and abilities.
Like give music lessons must be certain grade, teach tuition must be certain levels...and work as lifeguard must have certs and licence.
