It's a sticky situation. If someone does put words in your mouth by telling lies to your friends or people whom you know, if they know you well, it shouldn't be a problem. However, most likely he would tell the lies to people whom he knows, or to people who doesn't like you, or even worst, to people who don't know you, thereby poisoning any chance of you making friends with them. It's really a sticky situation and what can you do? Nothing. Defending yourself would be really tiring and useless most of the time.

I totally agree with KTE, why get so crossed with these kind of people. You will get high blood pressure yourself and you are the one who is suffering while the rogue is there laughing away. So keep cool and do what you normally did. Get on with usual routine. People have eyes to see and time will tell......
