imho i think the closure of schools will not have much effect on the prevention of SARS because firstly, we do not know how SARS is spread currently. and secondly, no matter where u go in singapore, it's mostly crowded.
one question which I would really like to ask: are poly students hoping for polytechnics to be closed as well solely for health reasons, or is it that they find it unfair that they do not get the benefit of a one week break? there's even an online petition trying to get polytechnics closed and one of the main reasons given was "poly and JC students have similar ages. if JCs are closed, why aren't polytechnics closed?" some poly students have expressed that they feel their health aren't worth as much.
I certainly hope that the reason is the former.
which by the way, even though students up to the JC level do get a break now, term 2 has been extended into the June holidays, which makes the one week break not much of a difference. -
and one more thing.. the closure of schools isn't a "holiday". to call it a holiday would defeat the entire purpose of the break, which is for the students to remain at home. to call it a holiday would be too light hearted, wouldn't it?
