I will define an intellectual as "someone who is seeking the truth."

Pol pot was a politician and he practiced genocide that killed off 1 million of his countrymen that he was supposed to look after...people and economy suffered.
Idi Amin from africa was prime miniter of an african state and practised cannibalism and the economy and people suffered as a result.
Adolf hitler failed his degree and was only a corporal in the army.he killed off millions of people while he was leader of germany.people and economy and entire cities was turned to rubble.

if they could fight back......im sure the millions of people under pol pot fought back but they all died as a result.policians make laws...and these laws are the ones that determine what is legal or illegal.before u step out...they would have areested u for non-conformance
so what is wrong with the singaporeans???????no courage to go up to the Istana and look at the guards at the gate?
i did that in the past.....a fat policeman started pointing left n right..and cameras were above me....well....maybe i should do it at night...but then i would be too busy shopping or eating.
goes stand outside istana n make noise only if they have no good food in singapore!!!!

politicians run the show from the food u get,the salary u will have,the market $$$ rate for yer jobs by their foreign skilled worker policies,the increases in various government linked companies like PUB etc and the money taken out from yer salary every month.
so the politician are really the ones running everything......they could have u eating human flesh disguised as pork too if they could do it what they fancy.
so politician run the show and it is u to fight hand and tooth and possibly give them a hard time everytime if they screw up on yer life areas.

intellectuls can never be happy in Singapore.
Because intellectuals need to express their views, they need to criticise, they need a vibrant intellectual climate.
And that is not possible in a repressive country.

If the intellectual keep to seeking the truth, there is no reason for him to be happy or unhappy. He should quietly seek his truth. His happiness, the others' happiness, anybody's happiness should not be of concern to him. He is an intellectual and should be above all that..

Intellect is acquired from outside oneself, eg, knowledge, scriptures and so on so forth - how lah, to seek the truth? Truth is, there is no path, it is being, eg kind, being rude, being ... that is truth cos it is an existential phenomenon and being ..... ???? is being true. There is no path excepting being the path.
Perhaps, what could have been meant was being intelligent. Intelligence is reponse , responding to what is, it is innate and emanates from one's being .....
My standing in a garage does not make me a car nor does my standing in a chruch/temple make me holy.
