im 17.
since bout 4 or 5, cant remember, i was being brought into a religion by my parents.
some info about the religion is that, its not mainstream.
i have to be vegetarian and attend classes. sometimes lots of it.
a few years back when i told my mother that "i cant bring myself to believe in this shit"
i got slapped for the first time in my life.
i've been playing along with her, maintained my religious diet and attend classes.
i feel the sudden need to break away from these patterns.. what should i do? i need your comments.
the situation now is that i want to leave this religion asap but my whole family including my siblings is in this.. and of course my mother is still an enthusias.
i dont mind being a vegetarian since i feel im environmentally friendlier.. but i mind being restricted. PLEASE HELP ME
tell us what is the so called non mainstream religion....
how old are you now?
If you're still in ur teens...then all I can say is...you'll have to live with it for a while more.
As long as it doesn't involve breaking the laws and etc...then just go along with it until you're old enough and can survive on your own.
Either that or you could try and explain to your parents and try to get them to see it in your perspective. But I don't think this would work since your parents seem really stubborn about it. Hmmm but then again no harm giving it a try.
What religion is it ah? Jehovah's witness?
=X

You got your own free will to believe what you wanna believe. Your own choice, blind faith is not faith, is ignorance.
what is the name of your religion?
well, u wont ever see a building erected for worship or gathering purpose for the ceremony or classes because it is held in another followers home. my friends never heard about it either so im not suprise u didnt know
Well, if that makes you feel unconfortable, then stop it. Your parents have to understand, you are old enough to make your own decisions.
Wah, what kind of religion is not mainstream? What is that religion?

i think it's yi kuan dao.
chinese-ish thing..
relli? i have to live with it? :( its been four years since i voiced and got slapped.
i dont know to what extent would it be considered law breaking because we were told to keep quiet about where the classes are held at.
Religion is mostly culture. You leave it, you leave your culture. The only thing that divides people however is beliefs within the culture.
My advice, is just live with it first. Wait till you're much older unless you're a good debater.
Restrictions aren't restrictions if you choose to believe it so.
Ditto littlemissbonkers
Is it related to money or any illegal stuff ? If not then still not so serious...
"Qiu Dao" is it ?
Going to aljunied to attend lessons ? "Ting ban" ?
Almost the same as me , it's buddhism but a different variation .
I too is a vegetarian for my whole life .
This feeling is kind of funny I must say , you are thinking about meat aren't you ?
okay here's the points
-i have to learn the procedure of the ceromony. i have to pray twice a day, morning and night.
-classes every saturday for general followers
-classes on some sundays for teens
-classes in malaysia for all.
-collect 10 dollars on entering the religion
-encourage donations which will "help you advert bad karmas"
-learn about "san bao" or the "three treasure", that of course we cannot say.
my mother is one of the better respected figure in the circle and hence people passes the money to her, in which she have to account for to an elder or some sort..
everything seems skeptical to me. i cant bring myself to put faith here
法轮功??
yes qiu dao.
strategist, i must say u misunderstood me.
im not thinking about meat since i have already ate them before and i've gone back to my vegan diet without a problem.
im just against this religion as whole.

I suggest you go to buddism forum and ask the people there for their opinion

Wah...hmmm seems time consuming and expensive..
Is your mum paying for all these? If she is then just continue with it, and if it takes up too much of your time, then make up excuses (school work, projects, etc.) to get out of some of it. No point straining the relationship with your parents over this.
From your post, I'm assuming that your parents are very strong believers of this religion. It'll be very difficult to change their minds.
You'll have to let your parents know that this is taking up too much of your time and you need to concentrate on other stuff. Get her to give you some space first.

You may be against this religion. But your parents aren't.
Don't force your thinking/belief on to them just like what they have done to you. I can tell you that this would only make things worse.
It doesn't matter if the religion is "true" or "false", as long as the people believing in it get some sort of reassurance or peace of mind.
Like I've said, get of out of it if you can, but try not to hurt the relationship you have with your parents.
thanks littlemissbonkers :P i thought there would be no solutions. i guesse ur suggestion would be great temporary relief.. i guess when the time where my parents wanna "Sit down and talk" i would have mustered enuff courage to tell em.. :P thanks everyone :D
No prob!

its 一貫....
originated from taiwan which incorporates taoism, buddhism and confucianism...a synergy of different elements and schools of thoughts
If its not as serious as a cult or enguaging in any illegal stuff then hai hao. Dont need to go so over to criticize one's beliefs. Judge for yourself whats important.
too young to understand....maybe time will tell the pervasive truth....
if TS is 17 he's going into NS liao...can temporaily get away from this religion if he chooses not to defer from ns to study poly/jc
