problem solved. thanks all for yr help
Its not a counter offer if they offer you something lower than you last took from them. You sure you want to go back?
Originally posted by yumii:my ex-company asked me to go back work. i gave them an expected salary range, which they counter offer with a pay lower than my expected. after i turned down, they came back with a counter offer. again i turned down. i couldn't cross the psychological barrier because the pay is much lower than my last drawn fm the company.
yesterday, i got to know fm a ex colleague that company has budget constraint. my heart softened and i feel i will accept should they extend offer to me again, and the job still open.
how do i approach my ex company to tell them i am still interested ? also i want to try asking for a higher pay again... how should i do it tactfully and without offending anyone ?
So desperate?
Find a new company instead of old company.
Just like in a relationship, find new company instead of going back for old company.

How much is the difference in your last drawn vs the offered pay ?
The job is still open for a reason.. because no one else is taking up the job at that kind of pay.
If you are desperate for the job.. then just be thick skinned and ask for it. But they'll know you are desperate to come back and be less negotiable from now on.
I'd wait, if I were you.. but there may be others who are better qualified to fill that job when they start to offer a higher pay ...so.. don't hold your breath for this one .. just keep your eyes open for other options.

first of all...do U have a job now?
I think U are still bothered by the lower-than-last-drawn issue...unless U can overcome it...either by ur feelings or getting that raise U want...I dont see a reason to go back...
but then again...how's the difference in job scope,if any....skarli last time U manager...now clerk...![]()

job scope the same... that's the sianz part.
even if they don't accept my asking pay, i will go on doing what i am doing now. it's ok lah. just try lor...
this looks like the best plan...if not U cut ur own expectations and go back also no point...
also think about the reasons why U left and if the reasons are still valid...

my mistake is starting too low on the negotiating range. knock my head, but no point crying over spilt milk
the difference is a 4-figure amount.

I would feel absolutely arkward to go back even if they offered me a much higher salary. I dunno how I would be seen in the eyes of my colleagues. But the first impression would be is because I am incapable to find another job out there, so I lan lan got to go back.
Maybe I got more pride lar and not as thick skinned, its just my insight. No offense.

that's true. that's the reason why i hesitated

job is like a love affair. the feeling must be right too, otherwise one won't stay long.
now, i'm kinda hoping they would not accept my counter-offer... haahaa complicated feelings... i know. the heart and mind are not in the same place, that's why i had trouble deciding in the first place
if they accept my higher asking pay, does it mean it's a done deal ? can i still say no ? urgggh
Yes you can say no.. but that'll look really bad on you. After all you can't keep asking for more and more to no end. Very unprofessional to say the least.
Don't forget your work history and contacts may be researched by your future company if they consider to hire you.
Don't put too much emotional attachment into your job.
Remember.. a job is just another business transaction. If they have to sack you or hire you.. it is never an emotional decision on their part.
If they match your asking pay and you like the company.. by all means accept the offer.n You've got nothing to lose right now.

why go back when they're offering you a lower salary?
the news just reported there are plenty of jobs. its now employees market.
Originally posted by yumii:shall i call them and ask them to drop what i last asked for ? or keep quiet and hope that they won't call back ? what if they really come back and give me the higher pay ?? how should i turn them down AGAIN tactfully without sounding like i am playing them out ?
I think you should just wait and see.
If you have better offers while you wait for their response.. they can't blame you for rejecting their offer anyway.
But you do come across as a person who is flaky.. that's not a good trait in any employee.
I suggest you don't join the company purely because of the people. because people come and go, this human factor is highly variable. Today you may not like the new management , few years later.. the people may turnover and a new group will replace the old.
What are important, are you happy with the work you do, the remunerations must be equitable and do you see a potential for a long term career in this company.
thank you for the responses.
i hv decided not to continue with this company. fm recent experiences, i feel that the culture has changed since new management took over. they hv become cheap and fake. that's probably why many ex-colleagues changed ship.
the people are the only few pull factors which made me stay for so long last time. maybe i m nostalgic and had the perception that the "good old place" is still good. this perception no longer stands.
the only reason i turned back is for my family.. personally, it's not aligned with my heart to do it.
due to confidentiality, i will delete my earlier posts. thanks again. cheers.
