i have a house but i don't feel at home in it. i usually lock myself inside my room to minimise contact / conflicts with my family. my room is that type facing corridor so the windows are closed most of the time. i realise that i am claustrophobic. staying inside the room (closed without open window) makes me feel uncomfortable. i can't focus on my work, even though i make myself available to do it. i just can't settle down to do the work. just want to get out of the house. as soon as i am out of the house, i feel ok. when i am at home, i feel tensed and depressed, can't think and function well. always in a bad mood.
feel so stifled at home that everyday i will roam outside to avoid coming home. even when i am very tired and very much like to sleep, i don't go home.
dunno what i should do. it's wasting a lot of precious time. my lifestyle is very inefficient because of this house problem.
Got no money to buy your own home?
It'll be best if you can find a way to resolve those conflicts you have with your family.
Then you won't have to worry about being uncomfortable in your own home.
Otherwise, you can only wait until you get a house of your own.
At least open your windows or on your fan..... seek a counsellor....
Just wondering how long have you been living in that room?
hmmm perhaps can try it out by changing room with someone else first. reason being that, living in a room near corridor sometimes causes one to be paranoid at times. from your case wise it might be caused by that instead.
another thing is perhaps change the arrangement of e furniture in your room, might help/might not i m not sure. it varies for different cases.
if it's of no help, seek professional advice to get it 'cure'.
given the circumstances, it's better if you stay outside to concentrate on your studies/work. Only go home when u need to sleep.
sure, it doesn't solve the root cause, but it helps you to focus on what you need to do to better your life instead of getting embroiled in family conflicts.
Turn your window into a mirror. This way your room will appear bigger.
You can put some dark sheeting on the outside of the glass. This will cause the inside of your room to be reflected to you and it will appear bigger.
Is the windows low such that people passing can look into it, or is it raised, such that people outside need to stand on something to look in.
Opening the window is the best option.
Only be careful of fishermen.

TS, you may like to open the upper part of the window if there is any. Try to find things you enjoy doing or listening to music to destress yourself.
Since you are working, have you ever thought of moving out, renting a room?

err why must seek counsellor even for this type of matter ?
finn, do you want to explore whether the issue is really with the house or your room; or is there anything else? I'm suggesting this due to you mentioning that you always stay in your room and minimise contact with your family. This certainly does not sound like a home to me.
simple lar. change the way u think, problem solved. the problem is you yourself created one.

the window is low. not conducive to open as many people walk past.
sigh. never mind lah. i plan to abandon this "home" liao. sianzz and tired, physically and emotionally
But after 9pm you still have to go home as the shops normally closed at that time. And what about public holiday?

yes that's why i dread public holidays because most of the places where i usually do my studying are closed. public places like mcdonalds and starbucks are noisy and not conducive for productive work.

If you are still schooling, try telling your family problem to your school counsellor. They should be in better position to help you.
I believe in the tertiary inst, they are called counselling psychologist. Approach one whom you can trust.
