I've been bulimic for 5 years now. I'm still going through it everyday. It is not the least bit surprising that most people suffering from bulimia are aware of the problem but are not willing to seek help.
Going to a professional would mean having to give the control over to someone else. Anorexics and bulimics want to have that sense of control in terms of their diets, their lifestyles, the decisions they make, etc.
If you want a better idea of what bulimia is, you can go to Youtube and search for either "Intervention Jessie" or "Intervention Salina".
