  I hate to talk on the phone without conversation going on - regardless of how much I love listening to the person speaking on the other side, when the conversation is dead, it is dead. You can talk like a soul mate to some people, but not everyone.
  
  However, conversation can be better if your circle of friends/life/society lies within the same circle - the topic and scope is wider. Throw in topics from things around you, then when it is going downhill - anything under the sun: just speak.

  dont be afraid to open up to other subjects.. hmm, some of my friends face the same problem cos they are afraid to talk about some sensitive topics. girls nowadays are quite open so no worries!

  the first few times are awkward... if there is a rapport, you can talk about everything under the sun, the most complex and profound things, the silliest and nonsensical gags, and both of you will not be bored...
  
  what's hard is building this trust.. it takes time, effort, and trying to find out what interest her and letting her find out what interest you... and after a while, when both lower your defences, you'll find that conversation becomes relaxed and flowing..

  maybe u can switch to talk to her on the icq.. it might be quite lifeless as u could not hear each other's voice, but it's not so odd when both of u have nothing to say.
