i reformatted his computer using the recovery disk it wipped out all his company's documents. i partitioned it to C and D drive storing all the data in D drive, presuming that the setup would allow me to choose to format and reinstall everything in C drive. But the bloody setup formatted the entire hard disk. i die liao .. tonite

Could have back up the important documents first. What done is done, just hope your dad did back up his documents and he has the latest ones at the Company.
No point beating around the bush too, just explained sincerely and truthfully. -
why dun u tell him now
so that he can do something
if he need something urgent ..say a document by tmr..and when he reach home...it will be too late -
You can solve this in two way:
First simply admit that you did it and try to be a "George Washington" and hopefully your father behaves like George Washington's father, but good luck, not everyone can behave like George's dad.
Second, you can try this strategy which I am sure many people will not approve but will do anyway. Ask your dad to bring a diskette from the office containing some software or documents and the moments he come back home, take the diskette and put it inside the PC, wait for 5 minutes and start screaming that the PC is gone due to virus attack. Act desperately looking for solutions and ask dad if his office PC is infected with virus. Simple strategy but effective! It work for me, and dont ask me where I use this strategy. -

Remember ur dad is only the elctrons tat is presence in the system.... it can be destoryed. Unless ur dad is an agent then u will have some problem.. -

thanks all. jus went to speak to my dad. he seems more upset than angry. it's all my fault; should have been more careful. luckily he had backup some data but those for the previous half-year had been wipped out. *sob* maybe it had been better if he had scolded me.

im now trying to use some data recovery software to retrieve it back. heard that its possible even with formatted harddisk. wish me luck.

It's possible if the system uses a FAT32 file system, firstly dun write any new data on the system. and try to boot the software from a disc.
I use to have a software from R-studio tat was pretty good, d/l from kazaa I'm not sure but I think theres a option to use a disc recovery -
Normally recovery disks will format and partition the HDD automatically. Hope your dad has backups.

Depending on your version of R-Studio, NTFS recovery is available. But from low level format? I'm not sure..
Nonetheless, glad matters didn't go bad for you. cherish ya dad. -

hey all ! thanks thanks ! i've managed to recover almost all the files by using the software called getdataback ! u may wish to take note of it if your computer ever crashes in the future. that software would help u a million man ! *ha* thanks thanks ! miracles do happen after all
