Should we, or should we not?

  I keep getting mailers asking me to donate money to the poor hunger-stricken folks over there at Africa. Those images of bone-thin starving people really makes my heart ache. I would really like to take out some money and donate it to them, but every time, I'll hesitate.
  
  Will constant donation of money to the needy in these Third World countries really help them?
  
  I thought it would only make them more dependent on donations and foreign help. In my opinion in such situations the root of the problem has to be resolved, and donating money to buy food for them certainly doesn't help.
  
  I think they probably need more help in becoming independent, like using new methods of agriculture so they can grow their own food and the like.
  
  So hmmm what do you all think?

  if it goes like the past, most of this aid will end up being mismanaged and into the pockets of the dictators which cause most of the mayhem and misery there..

  not much we can do...
  
  best thing you can do is to give your support to the NGOs like Medecins san Frontieres or Doctors without Borders, who actually do good and needed humanitarian work...
