Funny 'girlfriend' behaviour

The story goes like this, there is this female friend, K, i have in my tutorial group. One day, i told her that i have a crush on a gal, P, in my/our Lecture Group and asked her for opinions. Then the next time i went for the Lecture, she called me and ask me who the gal was so i described the gal's dressing and so on. After school, i met K on ICQ and she told me she knew one of P's 'sidekick' as they are primary school friends but she did not recognise her. So i asked her to 'link' me to P through the gal but she refused say they are merely schoolmates, not very close so i LPPL say 'ok loh'.
Then about a week later, i saw a guy chasing after P and so when i saw K on ICQ, i told her. Then before i went to sleep she told me to once again point out to her during the next lecture who the gal actually is.
Then a big '?' popped up in my head, if she, in the first place, did not know who the gal, P is...how she know one of her 'sidekick' is her primary schoolfriend ?
Why the lie ? Abit puzzling... -
