Is Mathematics a obsacle....

My maths foundation is not very good since secondary school and was forced to take up electrical engenering but i wanted to tkae up buiniess..been fighting a losing battle againest it. question is that if i were to make it to poly.. is it a must to pass the E maths to get the Diploma.

Maths is very essential for engineering course as well. If you fail maths or science, not only you are unable to get to polytechnic or jc, you might unable to choose a desire course in ite.

maths forumla are static, juz do more practise and get the hang of it...

i believe if you get to electrical engineering, you have to handle a-math and electrical foundation like ac, dc, ae and de, which include higher maths and physics knowledge.
Other courses like business and account also required maths calculation and if you are not strong in your maths foundation, you will be in trouble.
Unless you want to take up nursing.
One word, keep on practicing on maths! -

Yep, maths is one important subject in poly, because you are going to use it not only in maths itself, you are going to use it in other subjects, electrical principles, etc. I no from business but I do believe even in business maths is a must.

This sounds really cliche and you most probably heard this millions of times from everyone, but the truth (and it really hurts) is that you can only improve with practice. Hard work WILL pay off when it comes to O'level maths.

Actually i am now in ITE taking NItec in electrical for almost 3 semester liao and result still ok case and what i really scared i is that is that i were to go to poly for the diploma in electircal engine, i might not make it as i REALLY hate long algebra equation.. simple plus minus should not be a problem as i am doing some simple calculation nowin my course. Feel like taking some other course which invoive less maths..any sugession

basically if you dun like maths DO NOT COME ENGINEERING!
However IT and Business courses are a ok...since not much maths.....
However Business needs pretty good language skills so if you hate langauge classes then dun go there.... -
marketing is all about statistics.. think about it...
math is about understanding... do not be intimidated and strive to understand what you are doing... and why the steps are necessary to get to your goal..
if you understand that, you're mostly done
math saved my O and A levels... and a few uni semesters too -
I would suggest that instead of running away from maths, it's time to face it... life is not going to get better if you're going to avoid the problem. Maths is an essential for almost any subject, you might see maths in terms of statistics like what the Bear mentioned, which is used in many fields as well. It's painstaking to go back from the beginning to pick up your secondary or even primary text books and work on them again. If you stop seeing it as a chore and as something hard, but as something that's challenging, and a damn obstacle that between you and your intended goal, in which you want to conquer, then you will change your perceptions of maths. it's not that maths is tough, is whether you want to see it demanding or not. Some many have done it, so can you...

This is all too familiar . I faced the same problem back in secondary school with E maths. My first try @ O level - I got a D7 but I tried very hard ( just a matter of practice) - got a A2 following year O level. I proceed to JC & did A maths - & got a B3 . If you choose to avoid it you'll face the same problem as I faced later @ Uni level. I was invited to take a Honours yr due to my good grades in Economic subjects but later my professor realised that I didn't do the required maths economic subjects so did not qualify for it. I are very passionate about doing economic & inspire to be a economic analyst then. But, I am afraid to takes these maths econ. subjects so avoid them totally until I realised that they are still required when you need them most to fulfil your utilmate dream. ( I also avod so tt I don't hv to pay extra $ for my OS Australia Uni. cse - one subject cost a few $k) can't afford to take & re-take too costly.
So if you have so many PP telling you at such early stage in your life - why not take up the courage & face it . Don't be like me regret so late when I almost complete my uni, cse.

sometimes, actually, a lot of times, i feel that folks think they know everything... but in the end, by forcing their way, they wreck their children's lives...

Thats what i have in mind...after NS work full time and study what i want part time, thought i may be tough, at least i am living the way i want to be, not like a puppet being control by my father.

I've always wanted to enter JC and followed by the University... When I couldn't make it through, I felt quite in despair as I just have to choose a course in Polytechnic... Since then my life has started its 2nd phase of CHANGE... People around me started to change ONCE AGAIN.... Anyway, though unwilling I just picked up something... Poly life really isn't as bad as I think... The course was ok too... After that, didn't managed to further study nor get the job I wanted... But still... I guess life isn't really that 'bad' with this current job... Cannot imagine with I just ended up with NOTHING... Biotechnology. I'm currently sort of like a lab tech. Not exactly the kinda job I'm looking forward into... I'm more into research and development... But I don't have the qualifications and I understand that those kinda jobs are usually more 'competitive' and in a sense unstable nowadays... I RESPECT Science. I would love competition in research in a positive sense... But in reality it's usually NEGATIVE. To get to where they want, people usually backstabs each other and do many despicable things... I think it's an INSULT in the SPIRIT of SCIENCE. The very spirit which brought MOST of the humans to where we are today..
