why not? SAF is always short of pple. but think carefully though, options are many. good luck. -

if its solely cos u dun want to study anymore, (meaning u chose this option cos u think there r no other options, not cos u wanted to) den i hope u can think twice.
make sure u noe wat u r in for b4 u sign. u sure u enjoy being a soldier? u understand and like the regimentation, the environment?
there r other options for u if u do not wish to further ur studies. u can go for courses and go into areas wich u may haf interest in (e.g. car repairing, etc).
so in short, dun go into signing on by elimination. make sure it is really wat u want before committing. -

Well, ask your friends how NS life was, there's different options, like you can choose infantry(you like the jungle and walking?), armor(you like cleaning a tank?), engr (you like blowing stuff up or building a 100ton bridge?), commando(good at running?), SOF(like to be shot at?), navy(like the sea and can stand being out in the sea for months?), air force ( you like to fly?)..... So many options.
But let me tell you NS, there's fun times and there's shitty times... very politcal. And if you're not careful, you can be charged easily and go DB. So if you like fighting or destroying things? NS is not a good place for you, you will be sent to DB the first day of BMT.
Check the pay as well, it pays to have higher qualifications! Good luck!
word of advice: most pple who sign on, tell me they regretted their decision. -
Don't sign on because your studies are not good. As long your studies are screwed up, it's pretty hard to find a job nowdays, given the high qualification levels. Never ever sign on for the money. From my experience, 9 out of 10 regular friends regretted signing on. One friend spent $15k breaking his bond because he couldn't stand the rigidity and inefficiency of the army's system. and many other screwed up things lah.. i can go on and on and on... but the main point is, live your dream and kill anybody that gets in your way.

u better think carefully before putting ur signature down the contract coz once u become a regular and regret abt it...there is no way in hell they are gonna let you go....unless u are supported by strong reasons such as metal illness or permanent injuries....other then that...they dun give a dame of any of ur own personal reasons
It is juz like a marriage when u sign on, if u like wat u are doing then good for u...but if u realised that this career is not suitable for u...ur no better off in prison...u'll be simply cursing and swearing day in day out...but wats the point...there is no way out...u simply have to serve finish the 6 or 10 yrs of ur contract...and if u dun do ur job...u'll get charged and put into DB...it is a very controlled environment whereby u simply have to carry out what is being order and there are so many wayang B@#$%^# flexing their ranks ard...so think carefully and try to find out more from ur friends what is it like in the army b4 making that impt decision. Think carefully what u want for yourself..any other things besides the $$....u will onli know that it is not worth it once u start to regret it..Hope my advice comes in handy -

being a regular no doubt give you a stable income and things like that but if your qualification is low the chance of your advancement in the service will be slim lor. My advice is go look for a job elsewhere lah, unless you wanna get tied down for 10 yrs in SAF.

i think we haf seen a fair share of the drawbacks of signing on.
but o cos there r benefits too.
but in the end, wat matters is urself - wat u like, why u r going for it.
my opinion - gather as much info as u need, and den make a decision urself based on the info. after tt, dun regret it.
this pretty much applies to almost all scenarios. but when it comes to signing on, ppl tend to dish out discouragements more willingly than encouragements. tts where u need to be discerning and sieve out the objective info from the subjective ones. -
like many forumers advised u here, dun sign on for the sake of money or anythign else but solely coz of ur interest. if u got no interest, signing on will make u oni feel miserable. i am a regular myself and regretting every bit of my decision to sign on.wat good use is there if u have money but unable to spend it? also u claim that u dun like studying, if u sign on(provided they accept ur qualification) u will definitely not progress smoothly with a lowly cert. ur pay will be lesser than others better qualified and further more, ur mode of advancement is also slower. so maybe in 2 years time, a better qualified guy might be earning 2.5k while u drawing oni 1.8k despite ur rank higher than him and u 2 years ahead in terms of experiance.Originally posted by Destinyapple:ya jus like wht the topic say..i no idea..i am an ite student..yet my studies not realli gd..and dun realli like to futher studies on my course..should i sign on or not??
trust me, all my regular frenz regret signing on and just waiting to finish their bond. even officers(on govt scholarships) are waiting to switch to the civilian world after a few years. We regulars(most that i know of) dun wish to earn lotsa money in place of our happiness and freedom. imagine staying in the whole weekdays and doin duty on a weekend! definitely for the first 3-4 years of ur career, u will suffer without much freedom. i noticed this trend also, those lower ranked who earn lesser, work the most while those senior and hihg ranking specialists work very little(sleep most of the time) but earn extremely alot. anyway its ur choice and its just a piece of advise from me. -

heard people say that if you dont have a degree and not of OCS calibre, then dont sign on....if want to sign on, must at least be an officer.....and then at least can be major or LTC if you are outstanding when you retire. Even then, this is known as the Farmer's route, not forgetting the scholars ruote as well..these people are destined to be the future generals of the SAF. Just because they can study very well and get SAFOS ....in fact all the present leaders now are OS holders and or at least scholars.

in every organisation there will be the better and brighter, who gets fast tracked. no point comparing with them lah. o cos amongst these supposedly better, there wil be ppl who canot reali make the mark. but alot of them are good ppl too.
we all haf our own abilities and capabilities. we shud noe where we can go and our limits. not everyone can be a general or hold high appointments. -
If you don't intend to make it as a career, forget about signing on. You will regret. People who are happy inside are people who already so sure that army is the path for them. Signed on when you fully understand what you'll be doing in SAF. Many people did sign on even without knowing what is SAF all about.
Imagine, you can easily see FAT men and ladies who are regulars eating at foodcourts, kopitiams,,,*can't imagine how they run, etc*.
To all regulars who "Cannot make it in IPPT, etc":
Use your brain and THINK! Don't just take salary. You're one of the disgrace in Singapore Armed Forces!
A real disappointment for SAF regulars with many black sheeps...
I think MindEF should do more strict punishment like, "Sacking regulars who didn't perform even after WARNING letters given", etc etc...
It's TOUGH to be a soldier actually. Regulars, be guilty, be very guilty...
