  There is no way you can really forget your ex.
  As time goes by, you just buried it deeper and deeper. But sometimes, it will reappear back in your dream to haunt you.

  Your dreams tell you one of these two things (or both):
  
  I) Somebody/object of the past will return and you will see them.
  
  II) 4 years already, you are still stuck in the same well. The vision of your gf signify not her, but your past. Your subconscious mind is trying to tell you to move on and shows the picture of your ex-gf because she best represent your past.
