custody of children in a divorce

  how is this decided? who has a say? does the children get to decide or at least say who they want to follow? what about other persons / relatives who are close to the family? can their opinions of the parents influence the decision?

  Just my take as far as I know. Think it's gotta do with whether the parent can support the child, have stable job anot, and how much care given to the child over the years. I only know this much.
