another thing, i'm soon finishing my secondary school..
i personally wish to enter poly but my dad is kind of persistent that i go to the jc then to the university cause he say the pay will be like a difference of 1k..
what you people suggest? -

go jc must get degree..if not, no use.
Well, not to scare u, but i have frens who did very well in sec sch..but then din managed to do well for jc..ended up in poly after 2 yers in jc..so i would suggest u have a gd talk with ur dad...i think studies...is better if u enjoy it..if not it would be really boring to u.. -
Go JC, study hard, do well, chop chop get to local u, study hard, do well, get degree.
Poly, study fuking hard, do fuking well, chance to get into local u, still fuking minimal, what are your options after that?
2 years study fuking hard, confirm chop place in local u, or 3 years study really fuking hard, with less chance of getting a place in local u. Its your choice. -

IMHO, i feel that it more of a choice
YOU MUST MAKE THE DECISION FOR YOURSELF
your father can only give you suggestions, at most insist that you go JC.
The ultimate decision holder is still you
You`ll have to balance out the pros and cons of goin to each
AND FYI, ppl that goes to poly can also go UNI.
If u`re realy keen to experince immediate freedom by goin to poly
tell your father that you insist on goin to poly
you`re grown up enough to control your own life
or unless you want to be controlled by him forever..
ITS YOUR LIFE, DO IT YOUR WAY!!

chelseaduff11, if u go poly, u have at least have an idea what u want to do/work as. if u want to go JC, make sure u do well enough to get into the uni course you are aiming for.

Don't just go to the poly/JC just for the sake of going there.. Or just because someone ask you to go there.. Make sure you are confortable with the life in the institution you are in.. If not, even if you go into the best JC, your heart is with the poly, you will still do badly..
Of course, there are its pros and cons in poly and JC.. Both roads can lead you to a local uni.. Just how well you score esp in the poly as it requires the top 10% to be admitted..

Poly students do get a chance to get in U, tho not many made it..well I have frens who made it from poly. What's so bad ya? Go jc work very hard will get u v gd results meh? If not how? Waste 2 years leh! -

Air Levels... get already, not very practical if you mess up, pass but are unable to get to uni...
Poly... get already, you have a DIPLOMA which is pretty good... and practical...
you learn practical skills..
and if you're good enough, you get to go to uni.. with a lot of exemptions!!
think about it...
in the past, my folks could not or refused to see it that way and i spent 2 pointless years in JC.. -
My heart is with a girl in JC that might not even know my heart is there... and my body is working like siao in Poly... Till now still not bad... still got people call me PRO...the chance is there... but my heart isn't...

So this shows that Dip holders r better than Grads. Now in Singapore, grad no more 'chi xiang' liao. Simply too many of em. -
Another thing to take note of. Go Poly, u sure pick up smoking within a month.
Go JC not so bad. Don't believe? Go stand outside any poly, see urself the numbers of poly students who smoke outside the sch gate. But u seldom see this happens outside any JC. -

But there`s a part you`ve got it wrong too..
University aren`t there w/o a reason.
and ppl aren`t wanting to get there w/o a reason
as and formost, the general starting pay of a fresh Uni grad is higher then a person who grad from a poly.
I`m not saying it`s a sure but on the general scale, Uni grads are promised a faster pace of promotion up the corporate ladder due to the `extra`knowledege they had gotten from the uni.
and i still see ppl from poly goin to uni but almost nv vice versa..
its still show and will forever be that a
UNIVERSITY WILL ALWAYS BE A PLACE OF HIGHER LEARNING
i do hope ur comment is not a result of the `sour grapes` syndrome
let the uni ppl go handle themselves..
if you`re able to strike rich in SINGAPORE
who care if u`re in UNI POLY or PLSE,

all i can say is the kind of influence you get and how well do you cope with oneself.
goin either places will expose you to everykind of people
it`s really up to personal standards that what kind of habbits you pick up.
i`ve frens who went poly and JC
they`ve frens that smoke too??
but still they don pick them up

Go JC if u are strong in languages cos GP is not easy. U have to read widely & write lots of essays on terrorism, mass media, crime etc.
U either study Sc or Arts & later decide to specialise when u are in the U.
JC u have to work very hard cos if u cannot make it in 1st yr. u can be retained or ask to leave.
U have to make sure u get yr full "A' level cert to get a place in Uni.
In poly, u have to choose the course immediately. Make sure u choose the right one cos u have to study it for 3 yrs.
Only the top 5- 10% in poly makes it to U. (The fig. is increasing).
Those who cannot make it either go & work or overseas studies.
Advantage of poly is u don't have to study Chinese.
I understand yr parents' concern cos pay & promotion for U grads is better than dip. holder. Also studying in local U is cheaper than overseas. -

Eh, I'm oso Sec 4 leh.
1. I'm good in Eng.
2. I suck at other subjects.
3.There's also Pre U.
4. I think I'll go Poly. Cuz JC is out of tha question.
5. Maybe I'm going to fail O lvl.
6. Then I'll have to retake.

Ok pros and cons of JC vs Poly:
Polytechnic:
*Easier life, less stress in curriculum with module systems
*Free style clothing, + gurls are more "chio"
*get to almost immediately work after poly
*3 or 4 yuears, means u delay ns more.
JC:
*Harder life with stress and ****ed up teachers. Uniforms and crap.
*After As go university which will take like 4 years, before u go ns and work, more time. U may be an old man or a middle aged man before u finish ur education.
* Being in a JC gives u a +1 aura when communicating with many locals, esp parents.. for e.g. it makes me more attractive to friend's parents, or girls' parents
for the narrow-minded, being in a jC equates u are smarter etc even when its not true.
* After uni, u earn MORE $ than someone who took the poly path.
Anywayz, that's what i hear and from personal observations especially the jc improving ur look part.
