  wow, first they were labelled as punk, then they were labelled as goth and now as emo!? man they've got so many labels ripped off and pasted on their foreheads, I think theyre suffering from permanent scars
  
  having said listen to the song Love Like Winter ~ AFI, you can notice some details of future pop. Pretty much like the opening theme songs of anime shows. The AFI back in the good ole days and now show no resemblence.
  See AFI - Total Immortal and see AFI - Miss Murder, so much of difference. They're all too mainstream.

  wtf!? that's ridiculous! Sir I think that you don't know much about music to claim Maroon 5 as emo! theyre pop rock and Keane btw is indie rock, they're are the only rock band that do not consist of guitars or bass. Its a drums, keyboard and vocals trio. Keane is one of my fav's personally bcuz I'm a keyboardist and in many instances keyboardist play only the background music.

  boy you sure do know what emo really is, finaly someone who knows the real deal the prime old school emo bands; Sunny Day Real Estate and Texas Is The Reason.
  
  but the definition of emo is blurred and now it is collectively accepted that emo that is "generic" emo is nu emo. And whether MCR admits the fact that theyre emo or not, they are infact emo. I hate MCR and I think theyre trash but they are emo, lyrics, image and personna all of it is indeed by today's standards of whats emo.

  which type of emo u want.. old school or screamo? screamo bands like secondhand serenade have been around for quite long already..Juliana Theory and Get Up Kids are, of course, the pioneers la..but TGUK has long been disbanded and the pre-Reber Saosin days can be considered old material too..i loved TGUK's earlier materials and especially their Tour Live tracks with Jimmy Eat World and Alkaline Trio...instant classics..when Dewee started Reggie and TFE, i have not been listening to Emo since..then sprout out lame bands like Hot Rod Circuit and Tijuana Crime Scene...

  To me emo is dead. Died with the 90s. The "emo" that can be found nowadays are mostly bands from a variety of genre most notably post-hardcore with influences from the pioneer bands. OR the other type of "emo" is bands that use the emo trend to earn quick bucks *Cough*Fall Out Boy *Cough*I actually call those MTV emo.

  ..... I get emotional after hearing Maroon 5's songs, so I called them an "emo" band. Most of their songs are about heartbreak and sweet love. As for Keane, like to play them after a long period of listening to all the heavy stuffs. Sort of like..hmmm.... cooling down.... Coldplay is cool too
