Oasis Split: Noel Gallagher issues Official Statement about Quitting the Band
Hot on the heels of Oasis breakup rumors over the past few days, Noel Gallagher has announced on the band's website that he is quitting the group due to escalating tensions between him and brother, Liam.
"It's with some sadness and great relief to tell you that I quit Oasis tonight. People will write and say what they like, but I simply could not go on working with Liam a day longer.
Apologies to all the people who bought tickets for the shows in Paris, Konstanz and Milan."
The announcement came after the Britpop pioneering group cancelled an appearance at the Rock en Seine music festival near Paris on Friday.
A spokesman for the festival's organizers said to the crowd: "Liam and Noel have had a fight backstage. The group no longer exists. They will not play tonight and they are cancelling the rest of their European tour."
Earlier, the band had also cancelled their headline slot at the V Festival in Essex after Liam was diagnosed with viral laryngitis.
