i am not exactly a def leppard fan but i do admit to like some of the songs from their pyromania days.
recently, i saw a program where def leppard actually took on a stage with taylor swift for a concert where they sang each other's songs.
while taylor swift doesn't look all out of sort trying to be a rock chic, but when the def leppard lead broke into `love story', that kinda destroy not only the song, but the band's rep as well.
i cringed and switched channel.
what the hell the world is coming to nowadays?!?
It's not the only thing you'll be cringing to, I just found out that Scott Ian from Anthrax and Steve DiGiorgio from Death and Dave Ellefson from Megadeth played in some rap metal album tittle Death Rap, 3 years late but I'm still wondering why they did this!?!?!
It's pretty common for musicians to wanna try different musical styles and all that lah in their side projects or own band....children of bodom has covered all sorts of pop songs, dave lombardo has worked with djs, kerry king with sum 41...
your fav musicians' taste may not be what you appreciate but u just gotta accept it...
Everyone will try something new. Some time the magic works, most time don't.

i completely understand where you are coming from. certain bands, whatever their genre, have eclectic likes that made them cover certain songs that is from a completely different field.
this however seems to be the case of def leppard latching on the current queen of country pop's popularity and her huge fan base to try to introduce the band to her audience. i don't think def leppard has any intention of covering taylor swift's song in their next album, nor taylor swift is a big influence to def leppard. this is done almost purely for commercial reasons, and that to me, is selling out.
.....it's quite normal these days, sometimes the bands do it out of obligation to the record company. It's all in a package, marketing and milking the holy cow dried.
Heavy metal is getting more mainstream, more accessible to the masses.. for glam rock band def leppard to share the same stage with taylor swift is nothing shocking or anything. Ozzy Osbourne sing with the pop band "Was not Was" years ago, nobody bat an eyelid for it.
Until Slayer sing a duet with Rihana....Then.. the world has gone crazy!
Kiss sang with adam lambird... is that his name?
