Improvements to Chinatown bus services

How can bus services to Chinatown be improved?
As one of Singapore's tourist destinations, it suffers from constant traffic jams especially on weekends and public holidays. ERP has not lessened the number of cars, taxis that compete with public buses for road space.
Are bus services to Chinatown well-utilized? Are the bus routes well-planned? What areas of improvements can you think of?
Some bus services which serve Eu Tong Sen St/Sth Bridge Rd:
2 12 33 51 54 61 63 80 124 143 145 147 166 174 190 197 851 961 970 C2.
Suggestions for improvements/opinions:
Which bus routes can be further improved?
Which bus routes should be amended? Are they too long?
Are there duplication of bus services?
Do you think any bus services should be withdrawn or increased?
Are staggered bus stops a good idea?
Are there too many or too few bus services serving Chinatown?
Should some bus services use only double deckers?
Do other bus services need bendys?
Are major residential areas well-connected to Chinatown?

I think Svc 12 can be enhanced by extending it to CLE using former 189 route. It gives CLE better access to Downtown East.

And I think it would be much FASTER if you take the MRT from CLE to Downtown East, don't you think? Better access? btw SBST is introducing CT8,CT18,CT28 Express trips from AMK, Bedok,Clementi to Chinatown, please read Tamago's link in the main page

well i live in sembawang and hence no direct bus from sembawang to chinatown.i usually take mrt there and later take 851 or 961 then transfer to 980 or 856 .it would be better if smrt or sbst can implement a direct bus from sembawang to chinatown.by the way ,heard that sbst is implementing new bus services to chinatown.find that amk ,bedok and clementi already have direct bus to chinatown.wonder why sbst still operate these 3 new bus services from these 3 interchanges.these are just my views
