Talking abt this, the Habit cost, I believe majority of the cost went to the designerOriginally posted by Airbus330Captain:SMRT should buy enviroment friendly low floor buses that will improve our bus transport system. That will definately cost more but will only benefits the bus company and the passengers. Passengers comes first before anything else.
agree with you totally.if only smrt will buy lowfloor buses .Originally posted by Airbus330Captain:SMRT should buy enviroment friendly low floor buses that will improve our bus transport system. I don't really consisder Elbo scania a low floor bus , there is a step at the rear door which is pretty wierd, the design of that bus bus is wierd itself.Originally posted by Acx1688:Does SMRT have any low floor buses that can accomodate the Wheelchaired.
Eabo Scania is low floor but has a v narrow aisle, cant maneuver wheel chair

^ OMV stands for Open Market Value. OMV is assessed by the Customs & Excise Department, taking into account the purchase price, freight, insurance, handling and all other charges incidental to the sale and delivery of the car from country of manufacture to Singapore.
OMV = Ex-Works + Inland freight + Ocean/air freight + Insurance + (commission, royalty, trade discount, and other costs, expenses and charges incidental to the delivery of the goods to the place of importation, depending on the invoice term.) + 1% handling charge on the total of all those listed in bold + adjustment (eg agency uplfit)[/b]
Anyway the UMW Lances are cheaper cos they are land-imported from Malaysia, compared with Mercedes Benz buses which are air-flown or shipped to Singapore from Germany, or the Volvo buses which come from the bus assembly plant in Sweden.Originally posted by delonchew:Anyway, from the list that tamago has given, it is shown that Dennis Lance UMW are one of the cheapest omnibus in Singapore yet people are still complaining. Next time when SMRT buy cheap (and inevitably, lower quality) buses, don't come here to complain, ok?
You can calculate that based on the prices above. Carrying capacities are readily available. It may reveal a different insight.Originally posted by yoongf:I don't think comparing absolute prices alone is a fair comparison.
A more fairer method would be based on price per carrying capacity.. $/passenger load.
Point of contention in this topic is SMRT should stop buying expensive buses. So if buses come cheaper from Malaysia, SMRT should purchase buses straight from Malaysia and if so, people should not complain about Dennis Lances UMW that come from Malaysia.Originally posted by ^tamago^:Anyway the UMW Lances are cheaper cos they are land-imported from Malaysia, compared with Mercedes Benz buses which are air-flown or shipped to Singapore from Germany, or the Volvo buses which come from the bus assembly plant in Sweden.
yes. I know Alexander Striders, VO3x's (Alexander R) are assembled by BA/HG. VSO i noe is locally, but i dunno if it's BA/HG as well.Originally posted by Acx1688:Eh i tot tt most of our Volvo DDs (VO3x & VSOs) & SDs are assembled locally?
well think that smrt should not be buying those expensive buses with expensive interiors like patterned seats etc.think smrt should focus on buying buses from less expensive brands and less expensive interiors.smrt should concentrate on improving frequencies by buying more buses from less expensive brands and not less buses by buying more expensive brands.what are your views and comments on this issue?[truly agreed, i would rather sit and fall asleep in a non-aircon old and worn down almost empty bus than to stand on the door-step trying to squeeze and jostle around a brand-new aircon with nicely-furbished interior but crowded bus
will not complain if smrt buy cheaper buses.in fact i like the smrt malaysian lances and uk lances busesOriginally posted by delonchew:Go ask SMRT buy TATA buses lor or better still, ask SMRT remove all the air-conditioning units in their buses.

malaysian lances also have unbearable sound produced when they first started operating.but after some time,i got used to it.Originally posted by SBS3624G:So you willing to tahan the ratting in the NAC mkIIs? I took 1808G on 151 from NUS to HG and I left the bus with ringings in my ears.
that is because when the buses were new, the ZF gearbox were "learning" to adapt itself to driver's driving patterns. it happens to all new buses, jus tat some don't seem obvious.Originally posted by alantanchunshyan:malaysian lances also have unbearable sound produced when they first started operating.but after some time,i got used to it.![]()
