find the dennis lance buses smrt is operating is quite ok.maybe smrt should buy more of that ..maybe smrt can consider opting for dennis lance buses instead of opting for more expensive brands like mercedes.Originally posted by Acx1688:There are only a few reputed bus manufacturers out there in the market. Do take note that if you want cheaper bus, then you have to bear the brunt of buses breaking down more often which will disrupt schedules and there will spend more time in the wksp than on the roads means more maintenance, higher costs for parts and mechanics which will ultimately means an increase in bus fares!
Only major players have survived like Volvo, MB, Dennis, Scania, Nissan. These are trustworthy and they come with a cost. SBST's CRBs have survived 17years and they still can go on if not for LTA's mandatory bus shelf life ruling.
Please tell me you are kidding ! maybe buy fewer expensive busesOriginally posted by Airbus330Captain:Please tell me you are kidding ! It's not April you know.![]()
Dennis LAnce are ok unless their seating capacity is increased. If you did notice, the rear of the seat is actually the engine, wic if properly configured can yield another 4 seats. In addition, the AC ducts are not in the correct position ie the pax has to adjust the AC duct wic is situated behind the seatOriginally posted by alantanchunshyan:find the dennis lance buses smrt is operating is quite ok.maybe smrt should buy more of that ..maybe smrt can consider opting for dennis lance buses instead of opting for more expensive brands like mercedes.![]()
Dennis Lances have vertically-mounted engines. Unless you want to have a rear seat that is super high compared to the rest of the seats?Originally posted by Acx1688:Dennis LAnce are ok unless their seating capacity is increased. This is impossible. 1688K and 2888T have horizontally-mounted engines.Originally posted by Acx1688:[quote]Originally posted by SBS9818A:

Eh wat i meant was for the engine to be mounted the same way like SBS1688K or SBS2888T to maximise the setting arrangement
i hate the seats on smrt buses... esp the newer models... but i like the peace and quiet and the quiet engines, and less bumpy. tt means good damping.Originally posted by alantanchunshyan:well think that smrt should not be buying those expensive buses with expensive interiors like patterned seats etc.think smrt should focus on buying buses from less expensive brands and less expensive interiors.smrt should concentrate on improving frequencies by buying more buses from less expensive brands and not less buses by buying more expensive brands.what are your views and comments on this issue?![]()
and the price list makes me think if i have money to spare, i shd buy a bus and not a car!Originally posted by alantanchunshyan:thanks for the list of prices for sbst and smrt buses.![]()
so do I!Originally posted by finoq:as the news says, sbs has more buses than smrt, but i personally prefer taking SMRT buses...
Besides the above mentioned makes, one can find Causeway Link's MAN 18.280s (why can't we have them?) as well. These are Malaysian built and I believe they'd cost less since the freight charges are lower. Heading on to Kuala Lumpur, the Iveco Turbocity is a common sight there.Originally posted by SBS9818A:Alantanchunshyan, if you want cheaper buses (and probably bus fares), go to Johor Bahru and ride all the Hino AKs and OH1318s you want (and might as well stay there). We couldn't care less.
Why not JB? Except for the Turbocity and Metrorider, everything else can be found in JB. There are also buses in JB that are not found in KL, such as the Mercedes O405 (and I don't mean the TIBS ones).Originally posted by iveco:Why JB? There are better buses in KL (but equally bad frequency). The Malaysian capital has locally manufactured MAN 18.280s (why can't we buy them?) as well as Iveco Turbocities. I find them a tad better than the OH1318s and Hino AKs (cheapskates that are better off as school buses).

wow this buses look so coolOriginally posted by LazerLordz:I love the Habits.Hmm, why not change the UDs to a MB Citaro. And no TV Mobile please.I just want good silent buses, comfy original seats and cool air.

Exterior of the Oxford-Chiltern fleet.Looking smart..
although i am not a guy living in SingaporeOriginally posted by off_service:If you guys noticed, after 1993, both bus companies have been shifting their attention to European buses. Infact, many of the developed countries bus co do that. I believe the make and chassis of European buses are having more plus points over regional counterparts.
For SMRT, take the UDs and Mercedes O.405s for example, their age difference is only by a year, but differences in performances are far beyond that.
