Spotted SBS 1688K on Service 163 this morning (21st March 2005) at the stretch of Braddell Road (in the direction towards Bartley Road) in front of RJC at about 1045 to 1115 hrs.

The B10B has been around since it superceded the Leyland Lynx, so why is it that spares for this type are rare? According to an Irish bus page, the engine it uses is the same one as the B10M (both horizontally mounted). In fact, Dublin has many B10Bs with WA Setanta body (not to mention SMRT-style DAFs). In the UK, this type of bus is also rather common.
Anyway, the fact that we only have one Lynx should give an idea that SBS is not so keen on this kind of chassis. And what are the main differences between the various Cummins engines we know of (B245, C211, C245, L10H, LT10, M11-305)?
Also, this page has some nice Irish bus photos. Pay attention to the B57 school bus. It is definitely from the SBS fleet. -

The Setanta bodywork was originally designed for the Irish market. IMO, they're ugly. Most, if not all, of the ex-SBS B57 had been retired. The good news is that one or two of these beauties had been acquired for preservation. -

off topic: regarding of iveco saying ireland buses has sbs fleet, i would like to point out johor buses has the old ticket dispenser installed from sbs buses of the 90s in its buses. spotted in maju 207 route

Anyway, I was talking about B10B being a common sight in the British Isles (having superceded the Leyland Lynx) and using the same engine as B10M. The question was whether SBS wasn't keen on the Lynx-B10B dynasty and did not commit itself to such a chassis. -
I think the B10B, being the sucessor of the Lynx, was catered for the British market. Perhaps SBS didn't find the Lynx suitable and so were not interested with the B10B. But SBS did buy another rear-horizontal underfloor engined bus model; the Mercedes O405. Although we don't have any B10B here in Singapore, we do have their "cousins", the B10BLE.
