I took before Express 502 from Boon Lay to Sengkang on a Saturday afternoon, it took around 1 hour 45 minutes.Originally posted by 105090:501 and 502 (SKG) were the worst express svcs.
time taken to reach AMK ave 1 from SKG Int is about 1 hour!! the buses were slow and heavy VO3x and the journey to City is 1 hr 30mins+ ! Call that express! some more so many ppl go and take it.. -

IMO.. real express buses: 511, 512, 506.. cos i usually take them one or two stops before express way, and alight one or two stops after it.. for ppl, (like me as well) who takes 502 from SKG int to Orchard, it seems ridiculous..
sv190 can also be deemed express, and CT buses are also classified as express services.. what about 39, 161, 168, 858, 969, 965? apparently the operators know express services may not be very profitable?
healthy loads: 501 502 506 511 512 >> (peak) 518 >> whole day..
apparently HG and SKG ppl depended on the 4 express svcs mentioned to get out of the area.. as well as AMK MRT, which is 30 mins away by 159.. -

for adults, its a 75 cents premium but its worth it for the short term. last time i took 511/512 almost weekly back home from suntec/orchard.. now i really missed them..

I think the reason for the good load of 174e is due to the short frequency.

u think it's annoying? I stayed along the 502 route before the darling NEL was introduced. Then they removed 502.. and i lost my direct bus to town. Yea sure.. it wasn't the cheapest of bus services.. but it was nice to have a set of direct buses... till this day i'm still slightly bitter everytime i take 132 to thompson road then change to 156 or take a train to bishan to take 53... what about NEL? shouldn't it replace the 502 then? NO. cause i live equidistant to sgoon (nel station), bishan and amk. But wat to do... for the greater good of everyone else... my darling 502/501 had to be taken away...

That's because the interval between 2 sv174s is lengthened when sv174e is in operation, ie each sv174e replaces its sv174 counterpart instead of being an additional service. i stayed along AMK ave 3 (blk 554) bus stop there.. got Express 511 and Express 512.. every morning 511 100% full.. SBS have to deploy 50% DDs.. i took 512 come back from orchard road was a breeze.. 20 minutes, in comfort of a half-loaded bus.. suprisingly, after NEL came, 511 / 512 freq became 15 - 30 mins, and loads felled.. can see the pax all took NEL instead.. 511/512 should be faster ma.. majority pax stays along ave 9/ s'goon north and theres no reason why they avoided 511, 512 like a plague after the NEL surfaced.. on the other hand, sv85 (20 mins) got 90% full at the evening of its last day..
can remember 508 brcame 511, and freq became 15 mins to 8 mins.. sigh.. ppl along HG ave 8 avoided 501 as a result and took 511 as a faster alternative -

Anyone knows why there is no ETA plates for Express 518?
I can see that Express 506 really deserve the ETA plates to be gone as its frequency has improved. -

sadly, i also waited from 9.50pm to 10.45pm before a Mk IV DM pulled up (if it's Mk III i think i will wan to scream). not really mad, cos can tell he's caught up in the jam cos eventually (and luckily) he gave me the fastest ride ever on a 518. the whole bus was shakingly fast. still, he's 10 mins late at my arriving stop but no hard feelings.

The ETA of Express 518 at this stop is not put up on the bus stop pole but displayed on the board instead.
