nowadays SMRT simply cannot make it, no matter how low the frequency of trains during morning peak hours, overcrowding still cannot be prevented, commuters are forced to wait for the next train if they cannot squeeze onto trains
two decades ago when the government thought of the idea of introducing mass rapid transit in singapore, they should have think of converting them to double-deckered in the long run
too bad our elevated tracks can't accodomate double-deckered trains, or else we could have import double-deckered trains to solve overcrowding problems -
Increase the train frequency during peak hours is the best solution.

Majority of Sydney's metropolitan and Intercity trains are double-deck. But I was told that a double-decker train carries only slightly more passengers than the single-decker ones, and double-decker trains are more prone to breakdowns. Passengers may find it difficult boarding and alighting from a crowded double-decker train, hence causing longer delays at the stations.
Perhaps a seven-carriage (single-deck) train is more suitable to handle the peak hour crowd in Singapore. I feel that the authorities should have broaden the width of the train platforms and added stairs on both ends of the train platform whenever possible. -
Nt possible to have 7 carriages as the station is retrofitted to cover only 6 carriages unless SMRT retofits all their stations wic is nt feasible!

I don't think that would be a possible implementation, at least not in years to come.
If they're to make all trains double deckered, they would have to rebuild all tunnels and tracks as well.
Yes, increasing the frequency would be the best. -
Well, I think I have said before that SMRT has been planned such that it has enough capacity to carry an expanding population. Therefore, the only reason why we are seeing overcrowding is because SMRT wants to make profits..thus less frequency..geddit!!

unless SBST is able to attract more crowds to the NEL, esp during the peak hours...
i notice that many people in Hougang/Serangoon still prefer to take a bus and transfer onto the NS line instead of NEL....probably coz the stations along the NS line are much more convenient for the working class (eg Raffles Place, Orchard)..
