SINGAPORE: Visitors to Orchard Road should no longer find themselves stuck in traffic when travelling by road from one point to another. What will happen to Scotts Rd services? Will they still call at the bus stop behind Takashimaya? Also, if I'm not mistaken, the carpark entrance to the Youth Park is from the affected section of Somerset Rd.
After monitoring the traffic conditions there, the Land Transport Authority says it will be implementing various schemes soon to improve the traffic flow at the vicinity of Orchard Link.
Somerset Road, between Grange Road and Orchard Link, will be closed from July and traffic diverted to Grange Road and Orchard Link.
Grange Road will be widened from three to four lanes for traffic from Somerset Road and Orchard Road heading towards Orchard Link and Orchard Boulevard.
Orchard Link will be turned into a one-way street.
Also, the signalised traffic junction at Orchard Link and Orchard Turn will be removed so vehicles can travel through Orchard Link without having to stop there, and the bus stop at Orchard Link will be re-located to Grange Road in front of the Youth Park.
The $2m improvement works will start in March, for completion in August.
LTA says Grange Road, Somerset Road (between Grange Road and Orchard Link), Orchard Link and Orchard Turn are often congested, especially on weekday evenings and weekends.
This situation worsens during the festive season. - CNA
Cann you read the report clearly... Only the stretch bet Grange Rd and Orchard Link will be closedOriginally posted by SBS9611D:What will happen to Scotts Rd services? Walking from new bus stop to Taka must walk 1 extra block! Across the skakeboarding park. Shd ask for sheltered walkway!Originally posted by sbst275:The bus stop at Orchard Link will be shifted to Grange Rd (Os Youth Pk)
Will Scotts Rd services turn inside Taka and make a detour when the road closure is effective?Originally posted by yoongf:Walking from new bus stop to Taka must walk 1 extra block! Across the skakeboarding park. Shd ask for sheltered walkway!
I don't think they will. Expect these services to skip Orchard Turn.Originally posted by iveco:Will Scotts Rd services turn inside Taka and make a detour when the road closure is effective?
Shoppers won't be pleased. Not at all.Originally posted by tranquilice:I don't think they will. Expect these services to skip Orchard Turn.
The staggering of bus stops along Orchard Rd a few years ago also make passengers displeased.Originally posted by iveco:Shoppers won't be pleased. Not at all.
You are obviously the one with the vision problem.Originally posted by sbst275:Cann you read the report clearly... Only the stretch bet Grange Rd and Orchard Link will be closed
That one wasn't so bad, really. This change has the potential to cut off direct links between Somerset MRT and Ngee Ann City.Originally posted by tranquilice:The staggering of bus stops along Orchard Rd a few years ago also make passengers displeased.
Just get use to the change.![]()

I agree. I just think that there are too many cars on the roads. Even roads like AMK Avenue 4 will also get jammed during the peak hours. I just feel that it is very inconvenient to me because I often alight at that bus stop to get to Ngee Ann City but if the bus stop has shifted, I have to walk a further distance.Originally posted by sabaisabai:The LTA is trying to solve the traffic problem the wrong way. The issue at hand is too many people unnecessarily driving their cars into a very busy area that is well serviced by public transport. Any changes like this are merely a stop-gap measure, that will be useful only until traffic levels render the roads congested again. What really needs to happen is to discourage drivers from these roads. A $20 ERP for non-commercial vehicles in the Orchard area ought to do it.
