It's a waste time and money. I live in Bukit Panjang area and i don't take LRT to go to work or elsewhere. Bus is a cheaper and faster option. I agree that there is a need to improve the bus service here.
Existing LRT will remain as LRT and will never be converted to MRT.Originally posted by joelwinston2005:It's impossible convert LRT to MRT. Although MRT and LRT are rail systems, they are totally different modes of public transport. A transfer betweeen NEL and EWL/NSL is treated as travelling on one mode of public transport, so passengers pay once, but a transfer between NSL and BPLRT, NEL and SKLRT/PGLRT is treated as travelling on two modes of public transport, so passengers pay twice with rebate.Originally posted by iamgoondu:I understand what is a LRT and what is a MRT.
My question was why and how a tranfer between LRT and MRT is different from transfer between MRT (SMRT) and MRT(NEL)?
Why couldn't a transfer between LRT and MRT be treated as a transfer between MRT and MRT?
Or rather why the fare structure for a transfer between MRT(SMRT) and MRT(NEL) not treated as a transfer LRT and MRT?

Shouldn't LTA propose a LRT (rather MRT) for Jurong West extension instead? Having a LRT allows the SMRT to collect more revenues. And benefit SMRT shareholders.
Ya... The Bt Timah Line, but new lines have been delayed following the NEL (Unexpected lower ridership)Originally posted by LazerLordz:I've heard of a plan to build an MRT line from CCK/BPJ down Bukit Timah to link up with the Adam Station.
For CCK, other than 975, all other services within the town centre area terminate at CCK Int.Originally posted by icydevilvic88:Hmm.. if can, maybe u guys here wish to list down all the svcs (excluding feeder svcs) that passes thru CCK? if possible, compare only the CCK Int and the bus stops around that area, and see whether which place more accessible ba
Bt Rd?Originally posted by joelwinston2005:Actually, what you said is quite true. Maybe, it's because of the location of BP which is near Upp Bt road and Bt road. But if you want to travel places like Ang Mo Kio , Hougang, sengkang and Toa Payoh. We have to switch bus at Bt road. Altough the journey isn't too long. But i still feel that there is a need for direct bus to these area.
seens that a transfer is necessary. but if one stays in fajar that area, it makes no sense to have such transfer due to cost and time. (as compare with taking LRT To CCK and to Toa payoh, going through a big round via Woodlands and Kranji to reach the Toa Payoh)Originally posted by tranquilice:Bt Rd?
Bt Panjang to Ang Mo Kio and Hougang: services 190/700/960 to Whitley Rd, cross road and transfer to service 132.
Bt Panjang to Toa Payoh: services 190/700/960 to Whitley Rd, cross road and transfer to services 105/153.
Bt Panjang to Sengkang: services 190/700/960 to Whitley Rd, cross road and transfer to service 156. Or services 187/963 to Woodlands and transfer to service 161.
Just because these services connect Bt Panjang and Woodlands together doesn't mean they can be withdrawn. What about those passengers coming from other areas?Originally posted by phillipC:If according to the SMRT argument, asking people to take LRT, then shouldn't they withdraw all the bus services to Woodlands! It is also $2.06 for 171 ---> 138 connection (service 171 before BKE to Mandai Rd after Mandai Lake Rd, then service 138 to Ang Mo Kio Ave 6 Blk 700B).Originally posted by joelwinston2005:Ok.I have done some bus fare calculation.
BP to AMK by 960, 190, 700 : Last bus stop before expressway to first bus stop at Whitley Rd 12 stage ($1.13) + bus stop @ Blk 700B(nearest to the old AMK INT) 10.5 stage ($1.13) = $2.26
BP to AMK by 170 , 961 : Before Petir Rd to Dunearn Rd (First bus stop) 6.5 stage ($0.83) + same bus stop to bus stop @ Blk 700B 13.5 stage ($1.23) = $2.06
Save $0.20.

It is cheaper to go to Sengkang using 960, 190, 700 to whitley Rd and change to Svc 156
Should have raised it to the MPs before the takeover back in 1995. From what I noticed, SBS routes handed over to Tibs became sort of "untouchable" and Tibs-controlled estates retained most of their services, with little addition or enchancement of the route group.Originally posted by service_238:the thing why smrt or sbst did not introduce a service from the north west to central singapore is because of the demand. Not many people would travel from toa payoh/amk to bt panjang/woodlands. Unless u can bring this matter up to the MP of the area with support arguments for the need of this direct service, i dont think sbst or smrt would introduce it soon.
Service 172 is the only service to be amended/shortened on the day of the handover.Originally posted by SBS9611D:Should have raised it to the MPs before the takeover back in 1995. There is little demand from bp to central singapore? That is now. What about pre-1995?Originally posted by iamgoondu:And sbst not implementing because ptc forbid them from implementing one that cut into smrt territory.
1995? that's 10 years ago! Those move in 10 years ago, may already now started to work in central singapore, hahaha.Originally posted by iveco:That is now. What about pre-1995?
