Em... The SMRT's 0405 is only due under laws in 2012 not 2007 unless it is SBS'sOriginally posted by cck_190:Well, i'd like you all to maybe give reasons why smrt is not doing much to improve services.
My reason is that they might be trying to save money to buy new buses to replace 300++ MB0405s expiring in 2007. What's your reason?
Maybe because there are no vacant numbers.Originally posted by sbst275:Em... The SMRT's 0405 is only due under laws in 2012 not 2007 unless it is SBS's
Then why no new bus svs?

as smrt services is in the noeth and northwest areas of singapore, most residents there will take trains to get around. taking buses will be like duplicating the mrt routes, like 67, from cck to tampines via bukit timah, tekka. the start and end points all have mrt and is still the fastest way. maybe its too bad smrt service areas are quite isolated, pushed to one corner. the only important role is actually smrt feeder services as most parts of the towns have only feders with almost no trunk to serve itOriginally posted by Tomas_Rosicko:cos SMRT is incompetent and not experienced enough to enhance bus services, they are only good in enhancing train services but a pity that they are still not doing good enough

Then they should never have been allowed to take over Trans Island and "molest" north west routes. ALL MRT & LRT lines are better off under SMRT ownership. I don't mind having the DDs still serving 106. SKG and PGL pple can have all the Habit buses they want. Trust me, everything was better pre-1999.Originally posted by kenny_cai:SMRT is more interested in their rail operations than their bus operations. It's true.
yah...and more DDs on 190 tooOriginally posted by iveco:Then they should never have been allowed to take over Trans Island and "molest" north west routes. Can you promise that if they take all MRT lines, they can put at 6 mins off peak frequency and not going to screw up the NEL frequency?Originally posted by iveco:Then they should never have been allowed to take over Trans Island and "molest" north west routes. At least services like 82, 103 and 864 could still have a chance to serve more people if Tibs were very much left alone. Same way that 25 and 854 compete for supremacy of the HGN-EUN corridor. The rationale for SBS to merge 84 with 864 and shorten 82 & 103 to SER was to force people in the north east to take their subway.Originally posted by sbst275:Can you promise that if they take all MRT lines, they can put at 6 mins off peak frequency and not going to screw up the NEL frequency?![]()

There is a thread on what would have happened back if SMRT had ALL subways. One of the possible outcomes was that there would be no "north west for north east" swap. In reality, Tibs capacity became overstretched after taking over BBT & CCK while SBS, having excess buses following the deal, could transfer them from BBDEP to HGDEP to serve new routes in SKG & PGL.
Nope... It is BELIEVED only to be controlled by the Lee family... It has no govt direct stakesOriginally posted by Volvo Olympian:I think TIBS is own by the government..
SBS wouldn't have lost, judging from their economy of scale with respect to bus services.Originally posted by sbst275:The prob now comes..
If SBS lost then and took over BPJ/ WDL/ YIS corridor and could have merged with SMRT, service changes could happen too...
Who knows?Originally posted by iveco:SBS wouldn't have lost, judging from their economy of scale with respect to bus services.
What I mean is that the NEL should never have been tendered out at all, but instead, placed under the auspices of SMRT. Similar trains as those on the existing lines could have been deployed. The NEL fares may have been more similar to the existing fares as the cost of running the system would be lower than a fully-computerised one as it is now.
Anyway, if Tibs were the landlord at SKG Int, it would be built to accommodate articulated buses, just as WDL and BPJ were.
U mean our PM?Originally posted by sbst275:Nope... It is BELIEVED only to be controlled by the Lee family... It has no govt direct stakes
Anyway... What has happened has happened for the Tibs - SMRT merger and NEL runned by SBS, its time to move on from here... No pt keep on talking abt it, can we change the status?
