Did it show temperature? Everyday i board the Habit, i do not see the temperature. I only see the Day and Date and Time.Originally posted by hseochin:That's the kneeling feature found in some citybuses. A few Scania bus-chassi in Singapore uses it since around 5 years ago. Useful to have but i wonder how well would it be used versus any known 'tradeoffs' compared to not using it ?
The bus-stop name indication is useful but i'll prefer just flashing the name on the LED interior panel (which already exist on TIBS buses here but now they use it to show time & temperature instead !) To make one's ride as quiet as possible, no need to announce audiably except when there's blind people on board which the driver would know of any.
The operators & or drivers here need to learn how to set more realistic air-con temperatures !!!! Of late i notice they simply set to the coldest @ full blast, which is not only wastage but is actually making people more uncomfortable than comfortable ! If there's condensation & they need to use wipers even to see outside (which stupidly seems quite common nowadays especially @ night)
then it's very obvious the setpoint temperature is too cold yet they can't seem bothered to make sensible adjustments ! Operators & drivers do need to wake up to deal with such wasteful & inefficient usage of the air-con !
Correct me if I wrong. All B10Ms have kneeling function, all disabled.Originally posted by iveco:DM3500 got kneeling function? I thought only stepless buses had it.

Tilt down to one side,Actually the Technician dismantle it!!Originally posted by Superbus:Which is also known as the "Kneeling" function.
This feature can be found in Singapore buses as well, especially the Volvo Super Olympians (SBS 98xx-series), the Tridents (SBS 9671-9690-series) and single-decks such as the Volvo B10M Mk4 DM3500, the CNG buses as well as SBS 1688K and SBS 2888T.
Correct me if I'm wrong but AFAIK, this feature is manually-operated by the driver.
The air-con temperature is set by the Technician and it is automatic,They disable the temp buttons!Originally posted by hseochin:That's the kneeling feature found in some citybuses. Not only does Germany has it, Swiss buses have it orso...Originally posted by miwitch:that Singapore Buses should be like Germany's...
Germany buses have hydraulic facility for bringing the steps lower to allow old people to easy board the bus. When the hydraulic deactivates (or activate, im not too sure) the bus will tilt in an angle around 5~10 degrees down towards to bus stop. Before closing doors, it will activate and the bus is in upright position again.
It has a system whereby when it stops at every busstop, it will annouce the busstop name (or rather street name).
Together with the streetname appearing in a screen mounted at the top (like LEDs but better than that, also duno call wat =_=) so that you will not miss your busstop and need not look around to see if you are alighting at the right busstop or not.
Sometimes singapore drivers very powderful, they full blast the air con, causes the condensation on the windows.. Cannot see where u are at all. ~_~"
So with these facilities, I am sure there would be lesser chance of "XIA CUO ZHAN LA!"
BC and SC haf NO control over air con temp. Cant u c themself wearing jackets/Originally posted by hseochin:That's the kneeling feature found in some citybuses. Melbourne's L94UBs have kneeling function and ramps, FYI.Originally posted by ZYX2005:kneeling function:
Scania - driver controlled or automatic. bus kneels down in front. mostly scania coaches. have yet to see our dear L94Ub really do it. hippo tours scania l94Ub does it slightly. extreme case is Scania coaches on SJE. really know how to keep knelling.
volvos:
kneel to side. not necessaryily true that Mk 4 Dm3500 ones are diabled. felt SBS2779U kneel before. VSOs as u know knell. some with the knelling gone sot.
wheelcahir ramps i think r favored by merc. but since i have yet to take a merc low floor bus except the OC500LE. i not sure if mercs kneel

Haha,What can i say?Another point of view? There are some reasons for them to set it up that way.Another thing that you can went to their HQ and debate to them about thisOriginally posted by hseochin:So that is the root cause of the 'excessive cooling' problems ?!??
The fact that you get so many over cooled buses (with condensate misting up the windows & what ? drivers wearing jackets (how stupid that sounds to even think about ?!) especially @ night conclusively shows either unrealistic temperature setpoints &/or automatic control not responding effectively to ambient temperature changes in the interior !!!!
Since such automatic devices don't seem able to function to give people realistic levels of comfort (i.e. normal air-con room coolness NOT refrigerator/freezing compartment coolness) then human intervention would therefore become practically justified again.
High time they learn from Handal Indah in this area !
I've taken many rides on their CW2 route & notice their drivers are able to manually fine-tune the temperature setpoint & blower fan speed from the dashboard to suit changing interior temperatures !
As a result, i mostly encounter acceptable levels of coolness on their buses which is NOT excessively overdone to the point you see misting on the windows ! Other +points associated is that because the air-con compressor does not have to come on all the time & due to the variable blower fan speeds, the interior also becomes quieter which makes the journey more pleasant for the passengers !
Of course the drivers require some basic training perhaps on how to go about fine-tuning the temperature & what consitutues 'acceptable' temperature ranges etc. Nowadays with higher educated drivers here, that surely is no longer a problem to train them to be able to do that ! If they can train people to service air-cons, then they can damn well also train people to USE air-cons
properly !
yeah.. i saw and took it before.. the doors then cannot have the centre divider. (found on most buses like volvo mk4 and VO3x etc). with the divider thing, dun think it will be wheelchair friendly, esp when SBS had start to implement it.. anyway, most wheelchair ppl use london cabs..Originally posted by iveco:Perth's O405NHs are also stepless and wheelchair accessible. And SBS2834Z also gone wild!Originally posted by iveco:Melbourne's L94UBs have kneeling function and ramps, FYI.
As for B10M, it doesn't seem a suitable type of bus to have kneeling function as it isn't low floor.
Perth's O405NHs are also stepless and wheelchair accessible. I have also experienced them kneeling.
have to remember the cost of it.. else no one will mind!Originally posted by carbikebus:In my frank view i'm beginning to feel bored about S'pore public buses(Both).
If i'm the Chairman,I would sold off & (Scrap some) all the buses(B10Ms especially,Scanias,Both company Mercs and whatever it is) to a third/Developing countries)Then i welcome all stepless buses whether its Midis,Singles,Superbuses or Artculates. The brand of choices is Mercedes-Benz,MAN,Volvos,Scanias,Irisbus and some Alexander-Dennis.But however this just fantasy,I won't think it would happen sooner.
