there were plans to convert part of turf city into a mini malaysia bus depot, but failed as its near residential areas.Originally posted by iveco:Isn't it the former Hougang South bus interchange? Finally, it is being put to good use. East siders don't have to head down to Golden Mile to take the express bus.
Express buses are allowed to pick up passengers at BNL Garden MacDonalds. I don't see why there can't be a similar facility in the East.Originally posted by 105090:there were plans to convert part of turf city into a mini malaysia bus depot, but failed as its near residential areas.
now, hougang south is also near residential area and they still let it go on.. IMO, if this malaysia bus is going on, then they shouldnt had closed the interchange earlier. whats the use of chasing out one group of buses and asking another to come in, aftyer citing reasons like wastage of land of the interchange?
No change.Originally posted by 5454:so when this terminal opens where will SBST services 112,113,115 and 119 stop. is it going to stop at the bus stop outside.![]()

The former Hougang South interchange will be transformed into an interchange for Singapore-Malaysia express coaches.
Situated at Kovan Hub, the interchange will be operational from Wednesday 01 June. The interchange is equipped with checkpoint and ticketing booths, altogether there are 8 long-journey berths.
From then, the coaches will be plying between Singapore and Malaysia, Thailand. Singaporeans and tourists who wish to travel to Malaysia or Thailand will no need to limit themselves to board at Beach Rd or Queen St.
It is estimated that with the commencement of operation, commuters will be attracted to Paya Lebar and Kovan, the shops and restaurants nearby will be more lively.
From the understanding, this is a plan by MP for Aljunied GRC Mdm Cynthia Phua and Paya Lebar Grassroot Organisation. The aim is to attract more crowd to the area.
In February 2004, with the closure of Hougang South interchange, there has been a decrease in crowd in the area. With the set up of the interchange, it has been estimated that there will be an increase in human traffic.
Mdm Cynthia Phua said: "This interchange will brings convenience to many people. With the North East Line nearby, commuters will find it convenient to board the coach at Kovan to go to Malaysia."
The set up of the interchange is the important part of the group of Kovan upgrading programme, the programme includes the upgrading of Kovan Heartland Mall, building up of Paya Lebar-Kovan Community Club and setting up of flea market.
Hahaha..Originally posted by hseochin:Seems rather strange location to me to site an outstation coach station, although i'll definitely say such a facility is long overdue in Singapore !!
Why strange ? Because with the 3rd link still NOT yet in existence, i find it quite a considerable distance to Causeway or 2nd link from Kovan !
I'll expected a more geographically centralised site instead, where people from all over Singapore can reach travelling about the same distance from their locations.
When the 3rd link materialises, then Kovan would make more sense.
Because then from Kovan the coaches travel along Upper Serangoon Road all the way to the (now) dead end where they then head to Malaysia via the 3rd link bridges from there. But that's some years from now i'll say. Maybe this time they really plan years in advance !!
