SINGAPORE : The Public Transport Council has approved fare increases for trains and buses from [b]July.
Bus and train fares can go up by 10 cents across the board. This is if commuters pay cash.
However, if they use ez-link link cards, fares will increase by one to two cents for buses and one to three cents for trains.
Student fares and prices of student and NS men concession passes will not be increased.
Senior citizens will, however, be affected by this increase.

Up by 1c is still an increase.Originally posted by sbst275:Bus fares for card up 1-2 cents for buses, 1-3 cents for MRT

Please DO NOT mislead ppl.. (I mean for the Bear)
Bus fares for card up 1-2 cents for buses, 1-3 cents for MRT
Can you make your calculations right?Originally posted by the Bear:where have i misled anyone?

if you have to be an apologist for them, give us some facts.. try not to say that an increase is not one by mumbo-jumbo..
He said 42% in profits, not fares.Originally posted by sbst275:Can you make your calculations right?

Well... Actually, if not for the govt grant for start-up of NEL... SBS was bleeding in 2003... So, the % should be higherOriginally posted by the Bear:sorry.. wrong number.. mea culpa
it was SBST recording a $49 million profit last year..
hmm.. that actually sounds even worse
Practically most placesOriginally posted by margarita:i wonder other than SG what other country's public transport service earn profit ..![]()

There is no mismanagenent for the NEL... At this are the start up cost, just like for any starting bizOriginally posted by the Bear:are you saying that we should pay for the mismanagement of the NEL?
it was a fiasco from the start... and you KNOW what i meant by fiasco
but.. back to this: how come an obscene profit and we get hit with higher fares?
pray tell... how do you rationalise this away?
they wanna maintain their margins?Originally posted by the Bear:are you saying that we should pay for the mismanagement of the NEL?

SBS was never suited to run a subway line in the same way that SMRT is unsuitable to operate a bus fleet. Had SMRT been in charge of the NEL, Tibs would be left very much alone. Its standards today would still be at 1999 levels.Originally posted by sbst275:There is no mismanagenent for the NEL... At this are the start up cost, just like for any starting biz
Actually.. Bear, the govt also dun run the public tpt you term for non profit...Originally posted by the Bear:mismanagement.. as in the choice of "trains" and the fanfare, bells and whistles which added to the cost of the construction...
and all the other things...
besides, the stupid line took away a lot of routes which people took.. forcing them to take the NEL..
is that a "public transport" company?
or is it a corporation gouging people for $$?
it must NOT be forgotten that this is NOT a private company which does it's damnest to maximise profit.. this is a PUBLIC SERVICE...
the fact that they companies are in the same bed with the PTC should have set off alarm bells an ice age ago... i guess we, Joe Average, will not be heard... we're just proles to be taken advantage of, cogs in the wheel..
nevermind..
