Went to London in Feb this year, these buses are still having these conductors who are responsible for issuing of tickets/checking of concession pass/tourist pass and also press bell to let the driver know that bus is safe to leave the bus stop, when every one have board/alight.Originally posted by i_love_blacky:I remember seeing bus conductors in London when I was there in 2000 on those typical London double decker buses. These kind of buses were special in that you could only board/alight at the back of the bus, and there was this man standing at the with some ticketing machine slinged on his neck. I presume that that is the bus conductor as l did not see any other mode of payment availabe. Didn't get to take those buses though.

Do you mean the AEC Routemasters? Some of their engines have been replaced with Scania ones, so that could be why they are powerful.Originally posted by lemon1974:Went to London in Feb this year, these buses are still having these conductors who are responsible for issuing of tickets/checking of concession pass/tourist pass and also press bell to let the driver know that bus is safe to leave the bus stop, when every one have board/alight.
Managed to take two joy rides on this old bus. Engine is very powerful and can travel very fast..
You sure it's a Scania and not a Cummins engine? When I mentioned conductors on DDs I didn't mean those in London but thanks anyway.Originally posted by iveco:Do you mean the AEC Routemasters? Some of their engines have been replaced with Scania ones, so that could be why they are powerful.
I saw a brochure on the Scania website that said something about engine replacement for London's classic DDs. The picture looked like a Routemaster.Originally posted by The_Bus_Guide:You sure it's a Scania and not a Cummins engine? Oh, Ok. At the Cummins website, I saw a picture of a Cummins badge on the radiator of the Routemaster. So, I presumed that the old engines were replaced by Cummins. Maybe both Scania and Cummins are involved?Originally posted by iveco:I saw a brochure on the Scania website that said something about engine replacement for London's classic DDs. The brochure appears to have been taken off Scania's website.Originally posted by The_Bus_Guide:Oh, Ok. At the Cummins website, I saw a picture of a Cummins badge on the radiator of the Routemaster.
