39 NEL sized trains (78 CCL trains) for a 40km CCL...

If it's true, that's bad news. I'm hoping to see MRT stations along Keppel Rd.Originally posted by ^tamago^:as for Phase 6, i believe it's been replaced fully by DTE, so no lines from Downtown linking direct to HarbourFront.
Bukit Timah line (BTL) hasn't been announced yet, but from this: http://www.lta.gov.sg/images/millenia_station.jpg, it shows that BTL terminates at Millenia.Originally posted by LazerLordz:Is there a link showing the Bukit Timah Line?

Isn't Marina line current CCL phase 1?

Let me try to answer some of ya forumers' questions.
Okie. I am part of the Circle Line engineering team, infact, part of the team that is overlooking holland V.
1. Circle Line is totally undergrounsd with very thick walls. Why? Go figure.
2. Holland V. is very messy due to the fact we are all working in an extremely constraint space. Basically, we receive tons of complaints from expatriates and some MIW living there weekly. Its a nightmare for us enginners too.
Once, one of my supervisors had an ang-moh guy throwing down sandwich(presume for breakfast?) at him while he was doing some soil boring. Look at it this way, we faced tons of pressure from everyone while we still have to deal with our work pressure.
One of my colleague planned the H.V traffic layout. Ok ok.. it sucks to most ppl, yet how much space can we play ard given we are building a station right beneath the junction? Frankly, the roads will move alot more as time goes by. Hope you guys will bear wit it, after all of ya will benefit from having a station there, including the biz there.
3. Serangoon station indeed has some soil settlement conditions but this is inevitable. We can only try our very best to estimate the soil condtions below so that we will knw wat to do. That's why soil boring comes in., to allow us to collect samples of soil below so we know what lies beneath... pity my supervisor.
Tunneling is as much an art as well as science. Nobody knows the very next one metre in front of the tunnel boring machine would have large amount of water rushing in. When large amt of water rush in, ground above will slightly sink. In worst scenarios, the ground above create a large sinkhole or even collapse of tunnel walls below, causing deaths to the miners and engineers below. Tunneling needs abit of intution as well as science to anticipate what's in front, failure to resultng in disasters.
4. I am a Singaporean and very proud to be too. You guys should see the number of foreigners working here.. Engineers and const workers alike. Few Singaporeans will be able to accept working hours from 8am to 8pm, 6 days week, throwing in OTs without pay and hot dusty weather. Yet without us, how can the economy of Singapore be pushed on? it may not be as glamourous as entrepreneur, financial analyst, IB, life science researchers..
But do you guys knw what civil engineering stands for?? "civil" stand for civilisation. We create civilisation for human to progress. yeah.. its a sunset industry but hey.. who says we can't strike out in other countries?? Ok.. that ends for me now. if ya ppl have any queries, feel free to ak me. i will try to help.![]()
CCL phase 1 was indeed called the Marina line (MRL) in the past.Originally posted by disappear:I think Marina line isnt exactly identical to the current CCL stage 1, becos i thinks that this current DTE is what was at first part of Marina Line also but had been deferred until now.
The CCL will be built in stages. The Marina Line is the first stage of the CCL. Stage 2 of the CCL extends from Stadium Boulevard to Upper Paya Lebar Road. Both Stage 1 and Stage 2 are expected to be completed at the end of 2006.Invitation To Submit Proposals To Operate The Marina Line
BTL will also intersect Adam station on phase 4 of CCL.Originally posted by disappear:According to the map http://www.lta.gov.sg/images/location_plan.jpg, it seems that the BTL will intersect Bugis, Little India and Newton Stations. the BTL and ERL will also intersect at a point which seems to be between Little India and Bugis Stations, but dunno if that means an interchange station will be built.
Anyone has any idea the route of ERL from Chinatown station?Originally posted by ^tamago^:if u see the map on the front page of the ST today, u can see that DTE will eventually be part of the loop from the city end of BTL to the city end of ERL.
CCL phase 1 was indeed called the Marina line (MRL) in the past. You're not wrong, but the initially planned Marina Line consisted not only of the current CCL stage 1, but also the deferred DTE.
Could it be that MRL was initially proposed from Chinatown to Marina Bay (as DTE) but later it was decided to change the route to start from Dhoby Ghaut (as CCL phase 1)?Originally posted by disappear:You're not wrong, but the initially planned Marina Line consisted not only of the current CCL stage 1, but also the deferred DTE.
think so. theres a speech in 1999 talking about Marina Line:http://www.bca.gov.sg/newsroom/speech_241199.htmlOriginally posted by tranquilice:Could it be that MRL was initially proposed from Chinatown to Marina Bay (as DTE) but later it was decided to change the route to start from Dhoby Ghaut (as CCL phase 1)?Then when a IR is decided to be build at Marina Bay, the idea of the original MRL was brought into the picture?
There is no direct link to the EW or NS Lines. but Landmark Station is very near an entrance of Raffles Place Interchange Station within walking distance(unless i seen the map wrongly).maybe they'll find some way to link the stations together. It was mention that they wont rule out the possibility of linking Marina Bay and Landmark Stations via passageway.Originally posted by iamgoondu:The new downtown extension could be better off if terminate at Outram Park, for easy transfer by commuters on EW line.

Service 93 doesn't duplicates CCL fully. The service only duplicates CCL between Upp Paya Lebar and Bartley stations, and between HarbourFront and Alexandra stations. I hope it will not be withdrawn, the most it gets amend.Originally posted by muziq bus:Well whatever it is, the CCL will cause many services to be withdrawn....whatz so great about that.........?
93 surely kena kicked out..165 oso....
if i'm not mistaken, after Newton, BTL will turn to Farrer Park instead of Little India and interchange with NEL there. and i suppose it will make sense to interchange ERL there as well, then ERL from Farrer Park can turn towards Geylang Bahru, Kallang Pudding and MacPherson Est.Originally posted by tranquilice:BTL will also intersect Adam station on phase 4 of CCL.
I guess BTL and ERL will intersect at the junction of Jln Besar and Rochor Canal Rd/Sungei Rd.
From the terminating point at Millenia, BTL most likely has to intersect with EWL Bugis station by following Rochor Rd, and since Bugis and Little India stations are not that far, it doesn't make sense to "divert" BTL to Farrer Park and back to NSL Newton station. Most probably BTL will follow the alignment of Bt Timah Rd/Dunearn Rd.Originally posted by ^tamago^:if i'm not mistaken, after Newton, BTL will turn to Farrer Park instead of Little India and interchange with NEL there. and i suppose it will make sense to interchange ERL there as well, then ERL from Farrer Park can turn towards Geylang Bahru, Kallang Pudding and MacPherson Est.
