Since there is interest in Bedok South Ave 1, I have taken the time to read up:Originally posted by iveco:BDK Sth Ave 1 is a rather long road as it connects BDK central with ECP. Similarly BDK Nth Rd extends to Tampines. As for Svc 229, it does not call at BDK Sth Ave 1, but Ave 3.
Tampines Rd links TAM/PSR with HGN via PLAB rear entrance. Jurong Rd used to extend up to Bt Timah. Woodlands Rd stretches from the Causeway down to BPJ area. Part of AMK Ave 3 belongs to S'goon town. Only a small portion of these roads belong to the area they are named after.
I would perfer if 48 stops right outside Bugis Junction. So from Rochor Rd, the bus can turn into North Bridge Rd (Bugis Junction), Stamford Rd, Prinsep St, Selegie Rd, then Bt Timah Rd. On the way back bus can turn from Bt Timah Rd into Bencoolen St, Victoria St (Bugis Junction), Ophir Rd then ECP. Think more people will take it too, though I agree it is quite a detour, as opposed to going straight along Rochor Rd.I think it is not a good idea. Passengers want fast and direct bus service. If the route has many detours, passengers have to pay more on thier bus fare for getting to one place to another.
I would also prefer the bus to go along 6th Ave, then to Holland V. I dunno whether it is a feasible idea to extend to NUS (Kent Ridge), since the frequencies of 95 and 48 are quite different. Unless there can be something like 48A that plies from Buona Vista to Kent Ridge.
I would prefer SBST48 to go along 6th Ave rather than Farrer Road as well. That's would patch up the missing link between Bukit Timah/Dunearn and Holland V.Originally posted by loudmonkey:I would also prefer the bus to go along 6th Ave, then to Holland V. A very good example is SBST74. Imagine travel to NJC from Holland V by SBST74.Originally posted by payne:I think it is not a good idea. Passengers want fast and direct bus service. If the route has many detours, passengers have to pay more on thier bus fare for getting to one place to another.![]()

Huh? Which part to be exact?
From LTA's website, I downloaded this article which gives the exact height measurement of all overhead structures (up to 2002 I think). All current structures to be built must have a height Clearance of 5.4 metres.
From the article:-
{
D-GAN - Directional Gantries
EMAS - EMAS Gantries
ERP - ERP Gantries
FLY - Flyovers
H-GAN - Height Gantries
KTM - KTM Railway Bridges
LINK - Overhead Linkways
LRT - LRT Viaducts
MRT - MRT Viaducts
POB - Pedestrian Overhead Bridges
VUP - Vehicle Underpasses
The maximum headroom measurements in the list are actual heights of the
overhead structures measured from the road surface to the lowest point of the
underside of the structure. The lowest point of each structure is marked by a
red triangle on the underside of the structure.
}
In the table(extracted below), the height limits are:-

Dun ever believe the loading fig..Originally posted by muziq bus:Got height restrictions?.....but when i wrote to SBS Transit to consider adding DDs on 66......they replied that the passenger capacity is only 65 to 84%....they never replied with the excuse of having height restrictions along Bt Timah leh....

Thanks for the clarification.Originally posted by tranquilice:I'm inclined to think that the height restriction along Dunearn Rd/Bt Timah Rd (between Whitley Rd and Newton Circus) is due to the low tree branches.
Another similar case is Henderson Rd (between Bt Merah Central and Telok Blangah Rd), all the overhead bridges are at least 4.5m but all the SBST services plying that stretch are using SDs.
I live at Bedok South Road, and takes Service 229 twice a day, 6 days a week to go to work. And no, Service 229 does not call at Bedok South Ave 1.Originally posted by NineGrains:Since there is interest in Bedok South Ave 1, I have taken the time to read up:
The Service 229 route goes through Bedok South Road first, then Bedok South Ave 3.
Between Bedok South Road and Bedok South Ave 3, there are these stops:
1. Panasonic (Matsushita)
Address: 202 Bedok South Avenue 1 (S)469332
2. Fujitec Singapore Ltd.
Address: 204 Bedok South Avenue 1 (S)469333
3. Opp. Temasek JC
4. Lion Home for Elders
5. Blk 40
Note Stops 1 and 2. Iveco is right about SBST 229 passing through Bedok South Ave. 3, but he is incorrect in saying that SBST 229 does not call at Bedok South Ave 1.
Fourth to be exact - SBST 30, 36 and Express 518.Originally posted by mercedes_hispano:Service 48 as the 3rd service to go up the Sheares Bridge!Hope they supply superbuses in time to come. So cool!
You define 4 to 5 km as close to Bedok Town Centre but I don't.Originally posted by NineGrains:Actually, Bedok South Ave 1 is pretty close to Bedok Central and Bedok Interchange. It is about 4 to 5 km away from the town centre. It is, in fact, also served by Bedok feeder service SBST 229. The street directory also lists residential estates there as part of the Bedok neighbourhood, example by labelling it as "HDB-Bedok."
It is also true that Bedok South Ave 1 links to East Coast/ECP as my@jas pointed out, but officially the route SBST 48 passes through is still listed as part of Bedok South Ave. 1
These companies addresses are along Bedok South Ave 1 doesn't mean service 229 ply Bedok South Ave 1!Originally posted by NineGrains:Since there is interest in Bedok South Ave 1, I have taken the time to read up:

Far from being closed, one is presented with an interesting conundrum. The official address, the street directories all indicate that the buildings Panasonic and Fujitec are in Bedok South Ave 1. But the bus stops located just outside the compounds cannot possibly be in Bedok South Ave 1, insist the detractors Superbus and Tranquilice.Originally posted by Superbus:I live at Bedok South Road, and takes Service 229 twice a day, 6 days a week to go to work. And no, Service 229 does not call at Bedok South Ave 1.
FYI, the route is as follows;Bedok Interchange, Chai Chee St, Chai Chee Rd, New Upp Changi Rd, Bedok South Rd, Bedok South Ave 3, Upp East Coast Rd, Bedok South Rd, New Upp Changi Rd, Chai Chee Rd, Chai Chee St, Bedok Interchange.
FYI again, the address for the Lions Home For The Elders is:487 Bedok South Avenue 2
Does that mean Service 229 calls at Bedok South Ave 2? No.
The address of the landmarks does not determine anything with regards to the route of the service, in this case. The only services that calls at bus stops along Bedok South Ave 1 is SBST 12, 31, 196, 197, SMRT 853 and CSS 608.
Case closed.
Does anyone see the ironies here or is it just me? So the ‘stretch of Bedok South Ave 1’ is not in Bedok Town even though the street directory labels all residential estates there as part of Bedok, example ‘HDB-Bedok’.Originally posted by tranquilice:You define 4 to 5 km as close to Bedok Town Centre but I don't.
Service 229 does not go to Bedok South Ave 1.
I repeat, the stretch of Bedok South Ave 1 between Marine Parade Rd and Upp East Coast Rd, which services 31, 48, 196, 197 and 853 pass thru, is not in Bedok Town. That's called Upper East Coast.
Which comes to mind roads such as Changi Rd, New Upp Changi Rd, Tampines Rd, Punggol Rd, Kallang Rd, Commonwealth Ave/West and even the expressways!Originally posted by NineGrains:So the ‘stretch of Bedok South Ave 1’ is…. called Upper East Coast. This particular stretch….why do you refer to it as ‘that stretch of Bedok South Ave 1’ then?
And if itÂ’s called Upper East Coast, is this reflected in the street directory?
Is it just you who calls it Upper East Coast? Or should the rest of Singapore follow your example, nevermind what the street directory labels that ‘stretch of…err.…road’.
I really *do* dread confrontations. Your examples are valid- but they follow an old line of argument which I addressed earlier on 29 June at 9:11am. (You may wish to check that post.) This was what I said:Originally posted by Superbus:Which comes to mind roads such as Changi Rd, New Upp Changi Rd, Tampines Rd, Punggol Rd, Kallang Rd, Commonwealth Ave/West and even the expressways!
Does Changi Rd necessarily be at Changi? I can be near Telok Kurau even if I'm along Changi Rd.
Does Tampines Rd necessarily be at Tampines? I can be near Upp Serangoon even if I'm along Tampines Rd.
Does Punggol Rd necessarily be at Punggol? I can be at Sengkang even if I'm along Punggol Rd.
Does Kallang Rd necessarily be at Kallang? I can be near Lavender MRT even if I'm along Kallang Rd.
Does Commonwealth Ave West necessarily be at Commonwealth? I can be at Clementi even if I'm along Commonwealth Ave West.
Does Bukit Timah Expressway necessarily be at Bukit Timah? I'm sure it by passes Woodlands and Mandai at some point.
Does Seletar Expressway necessarily be at Seletar? I'm also sure it bypasses Lentor, Upp Thomson, Mandai and Woodlands at some point.
I also recall certain long roads in the street directory which is bisected into two, such as Changi Rd (from Siglap Rd to Still Rd) and Changi Rd (from Still Rd to Geylang Rd).
Let's ponder, shall we?
Oh yes, I take offence in you calling me a detractor. What started out as a healthy discussion on this issue has lead you to calling names on people who disagrees with you. AFAIK, I did not purposely do anything like that. So please do take note of the limitations here.
