Majority of them are pure Malaysians with slight knowledges of SG Roads what do you expect,Unlike SBST where locals now rose up to 41%Originally posted by muziq bus:SMRT audio thingy
Boarded TIB 628Y on 11/9/05
Had the same black speaker system similar to that on TIB 800 R...located on a black pole behind the driver
The driver used the speaker system to urge passengers to move to the rear..
also, he informed passengers on the next train station the bus was approaching..
"Next stop Clementi"
"Next stop Dover"
"Next stop Ghim Moh"
Funny thing was, both the drivers from 628y n 800r refer to Buona Vista station as Ghim Moh...
What purpose does it serve? Couldn't commuters see for themselves if they are arriving at clementi, dover or buona vista?Originally posted by muziq bus:SMRT audio thingy

well, me too, even though i've seen 800R but not been in it before, i can't quite imagine it.Originally posted by CAIX:I've not seen this kind of "Audio bus announcement" in my whole life ! I didn't know that SMRT has this kind of thing.
well, yes i prefer the ones outside, where you can easily show the bus service etc. but there's this optional new one inside the bus, it serves no important purpose IMO.Originally posted by kenny_cai:Call me nuts, but I like electronic display systems. Too bad SBST doesn't realize the potential for EDS. No more side display plates, no more flipping of bus plates for bus captains, and the metal plates used for display can be used for better use. Only few buses have them. EDS is the only reason why I like SMRT buses.
In fact, a minority of the SMRT buses have their interior LED displays showing the bus stop location when the buses reach a stop.Originally posted by finoq:i've only seen the display things start working...is it very useful anyway
Most buses fitted with the LED already have them working. Apart from showing the next bus stop description, it also acts as the new BUS STOPPING sign.Originally posted by tranquilice:In fact, a minority of the SMRT buses have their interior LED displays showing the bus stop location when the buses reach a stop.
Yup, it's growing slowly. Seems like some system bugs need to be ironed out.Originally posted by tranquilice:In fact, a minority of the SMRT buses have their interior LED displays showing the bus stop location when the buses reach a stop.
That's fast! And I have yet to board one which has the LED working properly.Originally posted by TIB1171R:Most buses fitted with the LED already have them working. Apart from showing the next bus stop description, it also acts as the new BUS STOPPING sign.
The "Welcome Aboard" messages are only for testing purposes; they are not permanent and do not exist when the LEDs are already working properly.
SMRT bus stop number plates only show the destination or loop-point of each service but not the bus stop location. Only SBST top-most bus stop number plates show the location of the stop.Originally posted by BluBlur:With this move, I think they have a better excuse to use less paper (those guides) and the decision to omit the location on the SMRT bus stop plates.![]()
Actually, I've seen only a few working. Most still have the greeting marquee, or with wrong bus stop locations.Originally posted by tranquilice:That's fast! And I have yet to board one which has the LED working properly.![]()
Yup. I remembered this omitting of the location was seen as unfriendly and stingy during the mass changing of plates, a while back.Originally posted by tranquilice:SMRT bus stop number plates only show the destination or loop-point of each service but not the bus stop location. So far, 1178 Y and 1195 Y are confirmed working. Showing stops while doing 960 and 903 respectively.
Maybe it's working on selective bus routes? I don't know.![]()

Many guys were expecting SMRT to incorporate the location on the plate, since they are do it easily during the mass changing to the new design. A disappointment for some, though I didn't think so much of it.Originally posted by tranquilice:The former Tibs bus stop plates didn't show the bus stop location too. Nah...not da one i was referring to....i tynk 800r remove the speaker already...Originally posted by BluBlur:I've heard that the microphone and speaker facing the BC is for time-keeping purpose. If the BC is off schedule, someone from a control room will alert him through the speaker, and he is expected to respond (perhaps with some reason) through the mike.
Not very sure whether we are referring to the same mike/speaker set.![]()
All the plates except for the plates which were in Bukit Batok....Originally posted by tranquilice:The former Tibs bus stop plates didn't show the bus stop location too. The plates only hadTRANS ISLAND at the top.
Yes, thats one of the weakness that TIBS has and also one of the reason that I don't like TIBS. SBS has shown the bus stop name :" Opp. Blk 231 " etc. That one is good, it identifies the bus stop name and location. Yishun area formaly only has TIBS service, so the bus stop plates didn't show the name. But after service 39 introduced in Yishun, finally now the bus stop has the name printed.Originally posted by tranquilice:The former Tibs bus stop plates didn't show the bus stop location too. Unfortunately, the original display on the front of the bus, which has been shifted to the rear cabin, has not been correctly programmed. Boarded 2 different buses recently, one of them is TIB 981 B, in which the date has been resetted to January 2000, and the time, off by several hours.Originally posted by TIB1171R:Most buses fitted with the LED already have them working.
