"Goodwill" services

Some bus services were victims of MRT rationalisation, but a select few didn't get any major change or survived unscathed. Others were enhanced or revived in a different form. So far, I gather that these are:
- 002: Changi Village to New Bridge Rd, duplicating the East-West Line from Tanah Merah down to the CBD. Previously went up to Buona Vista via Redhill. SBS could have shortened it to Eunos and closed Changi Village Terminal if they had been ruthless. Then we'd be having Svc 2 operating from Eunos and looping at Changi Village using HGDEP (now BRAM) buses.
081: The only direct link from Hougang to Pasir Ris. Cannot cut any further.
107: Previously a Serangoon-Shenton Way loop service, it was extended to Hougang to make up for lost connections following the rationalisation of 82 & 97.
119: The old Svc 860 back from the dead. Mainly serves students in the northeast area.
147: Northeast Line anchor, plying between Hougang and Clementi via Serangoon Central, Little India, Chinatown, Redhill and Queenstown. Also meant as partial cover for Svc 2. Could have ended up as a Clementi-Suntec City loop service, linking Chinatown with Suntec City long before Citybuzz was launched. A side note, CSS 604 should not have been culled back in the 1980s. The area around Marina Centre/Nicoll Highway has had much development over the years.
198: Shortened from Sims Place to Bukit Merah to ensure the continued existence of Svc 64. I remember HGDEP and JRBP supplying O305s and LO2Xes respectively to this route. Later dominated by LAs from BBDEP. Amended to ply Queensway instead of Queenstown MRT as a result.
960: Introduced as compensation for the loss of Svcs 950 & 952 following the opening of the Woodlands Extension of the North-South Line. If I'm not mistaken, those who benefitted most were SJI & SCGS students from Woodlands.
970: Introduced to make up for the loss of Svc 5 when the Bukit Panjang LRT came into being. Plies Hillview Ave, Bukit Batok and Jln Jurong Kecil to avoid duplicating Svc 961. As for why it doesn't serve Queenstown Library like Svc 5 did, only SMRT Buses' route planners have the answers. -
S81 is not the only service from HGN to PSR, theres also S89. And S81 doesnt ply HGN central.

it was said by the new that sv133 is a duplicater of NEL as well... notice that Upp S'goon Rd (S'goon Stn) only has 4 bus services left, compared to more than 10+.. is sv7 another duplicater? the Bedok <-> Kallang sector has many svcs duplicates EWL like 2 7 67 etc.

SBS had, after preserving 147, been pamparing it a lot.. so many DDs, 5 mins freq, empty buses from pearl centre, and getting SBS9889U.. had SKG not had its svcs chopped due to NEL, i suspect sv85 may had got 9889..
other goodwill services:
136: extension and improved frequency
27: extend to HG
and others mentioned by iveco.. most goodwill services are mostly along the east and SKG/S'goon areas -

I wouldn't have minded if 147 had been in the 2nd phase of rationalisation and amended to loop at Suntec City, with 106 being extended to HGN instead. But that is a problem for the 2 rival operators to sort out. While Chinatown has no cheap direct connections to Marina Centre, Orchard commuters are spoilt for choice with 106 and 111 calling at Temasek Ave & Blvd in addition to 36. Also, 2 of the weekend services (162X, 700A) come from Orchard. Perhaps 961C should go to Suntec area as well.
Suggestion to SMRT buses: Make 106 call twice at Suntec City like 864 in the not-so-distant past, and re-route 961C such that it links Chinatown with Suntec as well as Marina Square.
For eg: Towards Geylang Fringe - High St, (St Andrews Rd, Beach Rd), Raffles Ave, 107X route to Beach Rd then normal route.
Towards Woodlands - Beach Rd, (Bras Basah Rd, Raffles Ave), 700A route towards City Hall then normal route. -
147 can't be looping at Marina...
If 103 gone... SGN Nth have what bus left from CBD??? -
service 133 should not be withdrawn!!!! I am not sure about the passangers. To Zhonghua Secondary school, there is only 1 bus that is 105. The other is 133 and 135 which must walk longer distance to reach. if it is withdrawn, sudents from ZHSS will have trouble going to school. From Serangoon Station, you will have to walk very long.....
from bugis station there is only one bus to go to Boon keng station (serangoon road area)...if its withdrawn u will have to walk very far to take buses that goes to tat area... -

If 960, 700A and 171 are ever removed from Bukit Panjang, my shit will hit SMRT's fan.
I've benefited from 960 since my secondary school days and still do.

That would suck.Why would I want to take the damned train when I want to go somewhere and be given a chance to sit down and have adjustable aircon nozzles?
Sometimes,pursuing more trains at the expense of bus services is NOT a wise choice.Time will tell, and these incompetent transport planners sure know what is the best way to gain the ire of commuters and be a narrow-minded twisted piece of deadwood. -

yeah.. Chinatown have no bus services to marina centre except 961C and premium C2..
goodwill services to SBS: Bus services whose cost of operation (such as BC wages and bus and other related resources) are fully written off with the revenue earned considered part of "recovered revenue" and not normal revenue.. thats why goodwill svcs are getting less attention, except sv147.. -

I don't know about Service 48 (I haven't seen it yet), but it sucked to see a Serangoon-Bukit Batok link cut (Service 106). If possible, Service 106 could serve the underserved Beach Road. I've conveyed this view to SMRT last week. They haven't replied.

Well, they sure tell you to take NEL. But if you are at CK Tang, you have to change trains.
