Services which "beats around the bush"

consider by some as normal, but by others as wasting time, some services "deviates" to serve additional areas:example: if you are taking 155 from TPY to Marine Parade, u may waste travelling time for 155 to go intoMacpherson Estate, but its normal if you alight/board inside Macpherson Estate.:
sv14 via Bedok Nth Rd
sv73/136/315: Serangoon Gardens Circus: i wasted 30mins on S'goon Gnds circus jams many times
sv155: Macpherson Estate
sv22/53/70: Serangoon Station NEL rationalisation sector?
sv27 via SKG town instead of Punggol Rd?
sv28 via St41?
sv39 via PSR?
sv86 via Rivervale Drive?
sv133/136 via ave 6?
sv143 via Teban Gardens?
etc.
most are for the benefits of passengers ease of boarding and alighting, but at the expense of passengers who dont alight/board there..
excludes 112 and 113..
still from one of the topics, a bus entering enemy territory have to use the direct method to the interchange eg. 39 161 168 965 969, benefits pax going to int, but not along the town.. and talking about the Punggol Plaza Shuttle.. -

its said in one topic that, as WDL YIS CCK BP is considered SMRT "terrtory", SBS buses going into them ie 39 161 168 uses the fastest and most direct road into the interchange from the expressway.. note that 161 and 168 only calls at 2 bus stops along WDL ave 2 and its to the interchange already.
sv969 only calls at TAM int, but no bus stops within TAM estate
and of cos, the buses dont bring grenades and M16s

Talking about sv 27, sv 89 also make detour in Sengkang. But for goodness sake, if 27 and 89 are to travel only along Punggol Rd when passing through Sengkang, expect people to walk from Compassvale/Sengkang Town Centre to Punggol Rd? Considering Sengkang Central and Hougang Ave 6 have less traffic lights as compared to Punggol Rd and Hougang Ave 10, sv 27 reach to Hougang faster than 80, 82 and 87.
Parts of Hougang Ave 6, Sengkang Central and Buangkok Station are only served by sv 27, that's why SBST let sv 27 to "beat around the bush", or else there will be no buses to serve the mentioned areas, not to forget Punggol Rd is already served by 80, 82, 87 and 88.
There is always a reason for beating around the bush. Just my 2 cents. -
There is also 178 via Marsiling. Other bus services from WRI headed towards Kranji use WDL Ave 3.

123 confirm really beat around the bush one, cos got 275.
173 also beat around the bush one, cos got 106. -

You could also say the same for 147 between Hougang and Potong Pasir. -
Service 173 and 123 's main purpose is not to link from interchange to interchange.

the aim of revenue making, in bus companies views are: to supply feeder services from parts of the town, to the interchange. from interchange, commuters transfers to trunk or MRT. trunk svcs may leave the town at the most direct method. eg TAP svcs.
however, i also have to point to certain TAM svcs like sv8, 28 for "beating the bush". sv29 can also use ave 7 directly and not ave 2.. it waste time for ppl who board at int.. like i said, benefits those along the rt..
certain trunk svcs may beat the bush eg. sv18, 69 (consider them semi-feeders?). the converted to trunk ex-feeders.
as there are very few choices for commuters, most ppl just have to bear with the "around the bush" ,as transfering to another svcs may cost more time and $$..
i took sv14 fm Eastwood Ctr to Bedok, however, 14 uses BDK nth rd, a longer rt, so i alighted at tanah merah and took sv9.. tis is the shortest way, but cost more..

178 is meaned to serve Marsiling residents and also, provide an alternative from Kranji MRT to Woodlands Checkpoint. -

If 89 goes direct to TPE on Punggol Rd, it will lose out alot of pax.. Especially those Compassvale Sec. Students who rely on 89 to get to Hougang.. (they just dont like 27..

Service 74. Takes a long way from Buona Vista to Bukit Timah and vice-versa.
Service 78. Goes one big round along Pandan Rd/Tanjong Penjuru. Passengers going from West Coast Rd to Teban Gardens and vice-versa would rather take service 143.
Service 131. "Detour" into Farrer Park estate.
Service 229. For passengers boarding in Bedok South, at one point the bus is near Bedok interchange already, but still has to "detour" to ply Chai Chee. Same case for service 811.
Service 856. Goes one big round in Woodlands before reaching Senoko. -
if you got the first edition of the SBS town guides, u can see the services routes on a map.. easy to spot long winded svcs.. feeder svcs are the professional bush beaters.. eg. sv800 from Chong Pang City along sembawang rd towards yishun..Originally posted by tranquilice:Service 74. sv78 have to serve penjuru ind.same as 79 to chin bee rd.
sv131, well.. also waste time at lower delta rd agree
no 856, ppl walk until they happy fm senoko le tho 981 is there to "help" out a bit in peak hrs. -
Service 856 didnt "beat about the bush" when it was still terminating at the old interchange. To reroute it would pose problems for sch kids at Marsiling/Fuchun Pri and Woodlands Ctr Rd shopping centre, as well as the mosque-goers.
