i assure you that the high pitch noises associated with braking is normal. in fact, the braking sound of SMRTB bendies can be worse but it's the design of the chassis. nothing to do with servicing.Originally posted by zhaozhilong:SBS needs to service their damn bus brakes more often!
Almost everytime an SBS bus stops at a bus stop, it gives out a high-pitched screeching sound. It's so damn annoying and damaging to our ears! I'm even suspecting that I am having poorer hearing ability due to this.
Why is it always an SBS bus? I seldom hear the screeching sound from other public or private buses. SBS need to properly maintain and replace their brake plates! Always asking for price hike but don't service the buses properly and damaging our ear!
Someday someone would sue SBS for hearing damage, I'll bet.
have u been through NS? and i don't mean Pes C or EOriginally posted by zhaozhilong:It's different and absolutely not normal. The larger tourist buses and coaches also produce noise while braking, but nothing like SBS buses. The braking noice of SBS buses are like friction between 2 metal plates, so bad that I have to cover my ears.
the isuue is $$$$Originally posted by No_10_Tomas_Rosicky:The sharp screeching sound due to friction between MRT carriages can be more irritating, i don't understand why is it so hard for SMRT to rectify this
theres also those buses whose TV Mobile is super soft to be heard..Originally posted by disappear:out of point, but it regard noise too.
hatred the tv mobile, cant they tune it softer?
i know there are people who find it not LOUD ENOUGH, but if they really wanna to watch it so much why cant they bring a FM radio and tune in to 89.3 themself?
mean no offense to anyone, but sometime just wanna to rest and sleep in bus but the tvmobile makes it a lot more impossible.
like that also can?Originally posted by SBS9828X:Got any one of u here who needs sound to sleep?
I am one of them. The noisier the easier![]()

try sliding to rough metals together. Ull get it...Originally posted by sErviCe17rOx:the screeching is mainly due to wear and tear of the brake pads and discs..furthermore it is very costly to regularly perform maintenance on the brakes of thousands of buses am i right?? there was this post somewhere in another topic about bus braking and express coach brakes..try finding it..it may be able to shed more light on ur questions..
yes back then the buses were quite loud. not like today all so quiet and smooth. in other words about millions of people would have sued SBS in the 1970s and 1980s.Originally posted by iveco:Honestly, the noise from modern buses aren't as bad as some of you claim. THis has nothing to do with brakes at all. Engines on the whole are the guilty parties.
I really pitied the Leyland Viking drivers. The Leyland 401 front-mounted engine was really noisy. Even I myself couldn't bear it. But front-mounted engines in general are rather noisy, though.
A poorly-maintained Hino AK produces a deafening sound from the engine. THis is one reason why I can't stand front-engined buses, other than the fact they can't be low-floor.
