Tell that guy to make a suggestion to SMRT to extend 187 to Sembawang.Originally posted by phillipC:Yesterday 30/12/2005 read the zao bao.
one resident in Jurong east area, complain about poor frequency of SMRT 171 during 0645hrs to 0720 hrs in Bt Panjang area towards Yishun via sembawang, only got 1 bus during that period. and suggest having a direct bus connection from Jurong east to Sembawang via Bt Panjang.
But seriously, have you ever seen the demand for 171 in that direction for the morning peak...?Originally posted by phillipC:Yesterday 30/12/2005 read the zao bao.

Reply by SMRT,
The demand for that period was justifiable for having one bus, more than 30min frequency during the peak hour, can imagine the waiting one need to endure if miss the bus!
As for the direct bus service, as usual asking people to take MRT.
SMRT just dunt see the convenience and cost saving to commuters, of having a direct bus service!
the scheduled interval for 174 is about 13-17mins interval. So if you happen to encounter a breakdown, or even the one in front 3mins ahead of schedule & the one behind 10mins behind schedule, that'll total up to about 30mins. The same goes for the other direction, because of the Orchard Rd jam, the BCs can be sometimes up to 15mins late upon reaching NBR Ter, even if he leaves immediately for the return trip, he'll still be about 5 mins late (usual breaks for 174 at NBR Ter is about 10mins, so 15-10=5 ), encounter another jam of both human & vehicular traffic at around Somerset & Orchard area, and he'll be 15-20mins late by the time he reaches Farrer Rd.Originally posted by muziq bus:from farrer rd to orchard, had to wait 30 mins for 174......
i agreed with u SMRT bus got more power than SBST'sOriginally posted by phillipC:If all the FF and Express services are run by SMRT buses, they will do a better job, as compared to SBST! "Speed" is impt factor for such services!
Too bad SMRT just dunt have any!
But its just too bad ... SMRT don't really cares about their own bus servicesOriginally posted by busmanic:i agreed with u SMRT bus got more power than SBST's
who is asking higher fare? SMRT or SBST?Originally posted by phillipC:I am in favour of your suggestions!
but how to drill this plan into the head of SMRT's managment?
they only know how to waste unnecessary money into upgrading a bigger "bus stopping" display! i would rather they spend more money to upgrade their bus fleet!
asked for higher fare, and get the lousiest bus fleet for 920 and 921.
They want people to take train and to the management, train network is fantanstic! so not wanting to invest in bus networks, which is a unprofitable business!Originally posted by Volvo Olympian:But its just too bad ... SMRT don't really cares about their own bus services
i also noticed that 174e freq is as mentioned 13-17 mins.. not 12 mins any more?Originally posted by samtlk:the scheduled interval for 174 is about 13-17mins interval. I've even encountered breakdowns of 2 consecutive buses at Boon Lay Int before. The total interval between the bus in front & the next bus at Boon Lay Int is 23mins even though the incoming BC only took a 1min break. Plus the extra load because of the huge gap caused even more delay.

171 somehow always come at the wrong time for me...At the bus stop aft Dairy Farm Rd (towards City) when I want to take 171 it somehow usually comes last (after 67, 75, 184, 178, 170, 961)...and when I want to take others it comes first...Originally posted by phillipC:Yesterday 30/12/2005 read the zao bao.

171's frequency is quite poor, isn't it? Considering sometimes the number of people taking the bus...Originally posted by sinicker:... coincidence lah bro. at my house also, i want to take 168.. 3/15/21/27 comes first. i want to take 15, 168 comes first!
