The worst was still the SMRT bus rationalisation in early 1990'sOriginally posted by gorby107:Later in 20 years time MRT dominate the transport system and not bus anymore as it may withdraw due to duplication with MRT line like the NEL which a lot bus is being diverted or withdrawn

If like that we should have action to preserve the bus services or else next time there would be left only a few services as the MRT serves the whole island. PTC should do action now as the ridership for the bus is dropping since 1997Originally posted by tranquilice:20 years later? Now, the MRT is already the "backbone" of public land transport.
Like that all most of the trunk services will be affected by this type of situation and more feeders maybe needed to intoduce to serve all parts of the town which the MRT never cover.Originally posted by medicheng:by then the MRT will be the primary transportation system in sg. buses only required at the most travel from one town to another, like buses 101, 112, 113 and 119. lesser long distance travelling bus services.

Eastern and Bukit Timah Lines will be ready by 2025. According to a report in
http://www.cna.tv/stories/singapore/view/31160/1/gb/.html, yct said that the 2 lines will be ready in 20~25 years!
I think it's just a long wait! And a very conservative reply.
For those who have been anticipating for these 2 lines, I'm sorry to tell you, you got to wait for another 20 years!
The Government has announced plans to build three new lines, namely the Bukit Timah Line, the Eastern Region Line and the Jurong Region Line.
The three lines are estimated to cost more than S$11 billion and will be built within the next 10 to 15 years. While the Government will try to expedite the development of these three projects, the actual schedule will depend on the state of the economy, which determines funding availability, and how fast we can complete the engineering and technical studies.
i have just read the chinese article. dont know if i've misread it, but was the article trying to say that, after 20 to 25 years, Bukit Timah LIne and Eastern Region Line would have been completed, built, and in operation, rather than the 2 lines would be completed only after20 to 25 years. there's a huge difference in meaning!!Originally posted by iamgoondu:Not sure if it's a good or bad news!
