Pre-war days??Originally posted by SGEMP:I don't know if 170 has existed ever since the pre-war days.
So to any experts here, I would appreciate if this is true for 170.
thank you.
Svc 10 in its early days operated from Jurong.Originally posted by PhyrePhox:Oh.. and 10 was amended from Clementi to Kent Ridge.. I remembered that "loss"...

No.. the road network was terrible then.. I'm not even sure if buses of any sort go across the Causeway.
I've read somewhere that 170 was established somewhere in really late 60s or early 70s.

Blown up to halt the movement of Japanese troops.. During the Japanese Occupation, the Japanese rebuilt it somewhat.. but I think the whole Causeway before and after the war was not as wide as it is today.Originally posted by sinicker:wow, pre-war days?!!!
whatever happened to our history lessons? the Causeway was blown up remember..
Is there a Bedok New Town in the late 1960s?Originally posted by ^tamago^:Svc 225. Since late 1960s.
Thanks.Originally posted by samtlk:At the current Canteen 2 building if I'm not wrong. There was also sv199 from Jurong Int to NTI (Loop).

There was only 1 entrance then.Originally posted by kc_leung:Thanks.
Did 174 follow the route of 199 from Jurong Rd to NTI/NTU?

Maybe that's why the bus stop bay at the bus stop outside canteen 2 is so big.Originally posted by samtlk:At the current Canteen 2 building if I'm not wrong. There was also sv199 from Jurong Int to NTI (Loop).

The Green Bus Company operated a service between Queen St and Johore Bahru, via Ophir Rd, Rochore Canal Rd, Bt Timah Rd and Woodlands Rd, as early as 1933. Buses don't usually have service numbers at that time but by 1964, it had become known as service 1. The Green Bus Company became a part of United Bus Service in 1971 and it was probably at this time that the route was re-numbered as 170. Service 170 became the responsibility of Singapore Bus Service in 1973.Originally posted by SGEMP:I don't know if 170 has existed ever since the pre-war days.

The route in Singapore remains intact for over 40 years, except the inner Johor Bahru sector. ex-UBC MB OF1413 buses used to serve on 170 in the 1970s. Its route was extended from Johore Bahru Terminus to Larkin Ter in 1996.Originally posted by The_Bus_Guide:The Green Bus Company operated a service between Queen St and Johore Bahru, via Ophir Rd, Rochore Canal Rd, Bt Timah Rd and Woodlands Rd, as early as 1933. 174 ever terminate at NTI Terminal. It is now known as NTU.Originally posted by kc_leung:Anyone can tell me where exactly in today's NTU is the former NTI terminal?
Also, was 174 the only service that ever terminated there?![]()
The place there is big enough for a LO2x to make a U-turn. It was the first stop of the sv199 mid-way trip when the service was transferred to Boon Lay Int. I even saw a sv179 LO3x making a U-turn there before too.Originally posted by kc_leung:Maybe that's why the bus stop bay at the bus stop outside canteen 2 is so big.![]()
I don't know if it has existed since late 1967- late 1968 until now. (So please help answer this query. thank you.)Originally posted by ^tamago^:Svc 225. Since late 1960s.
Wah.. funny.. if Majlis Bandaraya JB didn't move the terminal to Larkin, it would have remained to today. No offence, but I just find it funny that this is the one thing a Singaporean entity has chosen not to change, while a JB one actually did!Originally posted by Apex-LW'21:The route in Singapore remains intact for over 40 years, except the inner Johor Bahru sector. ex-UBC MB OF1413 buses used to serve on 170 in the 1970s. There is no Bedok New Town in the 1960s. Svc 225 existed in the 1980s. Bus Guide in the 1970s shows svcs up to 209, there is no Svc 225 in the 1960s & 1970s.Originally posted by SGEMP:I don't know if it has existed since late 1967- late 1968 until now. (So please help answer this query. thank you.)
