Hmm, I overheard in ShoutBox last month that SBST & Daimler-Chrysler had some kind of dispute regarding poor after-sales service. Whoever said so also rubbished the thought that we would be seeing the OC500s out on the road anytime soon.Originally posted by carbikebus:IMO i think there will be some Merc in SBST fleets,Its a matter of time only.
BTW,Hseochin i do have relatives & Friends working as Officers & Technicians at Various Depots including SMRTB ones. It's only a matter of privacy.

But, something is wrong, and again, the proud Malaysian attitude... Saying HI only operator of SG - JB bus rt, when SBS has been running for 32 yrs

With regards to the B9TLs, Jack says they might not appear this month. What about Christmas?
Sometimes i feel that it's boring enough for me to see at all those Public buses especially SBST ones. All they care is only cheap spare parts/Bond with a single manufacturers only.Don't they'll think it's heytime fro SG to have all Stepless Citybuses?Originally posted by hseochin:I fully agree they cannot really force people to use public transport instead of sticking to their cars. But what they can do is to make public transport here appealing enough to swing as much as possible of such people to use public transport !
To me it's something like they cannot really force people to not use the airport as a place to loiter around to do their study. Instead they have resorted to building new & better libraries & upgrading existing ones to bring these more up to the same class of enivronment as the airport buildings, so that more such people would use the airport less & the libraries more instead ! Having toured the new national library HQ, i can say it's indeed a very expensive building with 3 or 4 storey high ceilings to air-con & the vast expanse of space inside it. I think it's possibly more grand than the airport ! So they use such an approach instead of chasing people out of the airport !!
Therefore in the area of transport, i'll logically also expect a broadly similar approach whereby they don't really need to prevent people from using their cars ! Instead they jack up the standard of public transport to such a class that more people find it attractive enough to use & end up using more of it.
ERP, COE & parking fees are only very superfictial fiscal financial instruments they can use to try to regulate & limit the growth of the vehicle population.
These have to continue to be used but using these does not imply they don't have to bother to jack up the appeal of public transport here !! I'll say they have to do both as both tasks complement each other with the resultant objective of shifting as much private transport usage over to public transport as possible.
The overall costs of private car transport here would NOT be cheaper.
Because eventhough they reduce the ownership cost of cars, the usage costs of cars would go up instead ! Bear in mind cars need land to park on & land is in short supply on this small island, so anything that requires land for it to exist here do not expect it to be 'cheap' into the future !
Talking about knowing friends & relatives working in SMRT, how is this Friends of TIBS thing going nowadays ? The last i knew of it was in June 2000 when i met up with Tan Hup Foi & Piper, among some others from TIBS while attending the launch ceremony for the Hispano Habit here. Also remember talking with the Hispano chairman & Malaysian GM for Voith....both of them seem very young to me !! Nowadays seems like there's more & more young bosses with older assistants ! Only hope they are just as competent as the older bosses !

FOr one, the O405 has a horizontal underfloor engine. THe radiator grill of the bus in question doesn't look like that of an O405.Originally posted by carbikebus:Looks like O 405 to me?
Then what model is this may i know?Is the steps high?Pardon my ignorancesOriginally posted by The_Bus_Guide:It is definitely not an O405. Its VIN indicates that it is a Brazilian chassis. Also, the rear seats are placed higher, which means that the engine is mounted vertically. As for the front wheel, the centre is a polygon with the Mercedes star.
It never go to Ulu Choh, the nearest point to Ulu Choh is Gelang Patah. The svc is not really mean for S'poreans heading to JB, for me, I might as well take 160 from Jurong East since it goes to JB straight, nevertheless the massive human jam at JB checkpoint. The svc is more useful to the M'sians working/schooling in the Western side of Sg and stay in the Western side of JB, as well as S'poreans who are heading to the Western JB area.Originally posted by sbst275:The bus likes to make 1 detour bef getting to Larkin, getting to Western JB 1st. Does it go to Ulu Choh or near by?
Anyway, dun think it would be that popular as of the fares
Couldnt be. And i dont think HI have them do they?Originally posted by carbikebus:Looks like O 405 to me?
It depends, higher cost @ Linkedua, but if bth kena jam, usually Causeway side clear fasterOriginally posted by PJ_Quek:It never go to Ulu Choh, the nearest point to Ulu Choh is Gelang Patah. Note the bodywork design whereby the floor is uniformly low & level almost all the way inside but only suddenly rising by 1 or 2 steps @ the last 1 or 2 rows of seats.
The Saab-Scania N113 used in Singapore something like that & in their case, the engine's transverly mounted.
I've been informed that in more recent times, M-B bus-chassi tend to be produced in Portugal or Brazil with lower volume from Germany itself. So i won't be surprised if OC 500 series is also produced outside Germany !
The OM 457 engine series used on the Citaro does also exist in OM 457 LA form in transverse configuration when used on the Travego coach. But i strongly suspect in HI's buses, it's the OM 926 LA instead. What do you think ??
HI seems to have 3 different dashboard instrumentation panel designs on their fleet of new generation M-B bus-chassi although all use the 4-spoke steering-wheel more similar to Travego than Citaro. I note the engine used on those with the 2-dial dashboard design is different from the higher end version with the LCD lighted display in the middle between the 2 dials vaguely similar to Travego.
