Job Prospect for Bus Drivers

How much can a bus driver hope to make a month? I am in Sec 2 now and would like to be a bus driver one day.

You wanna be a bus driver? Hope you kena 165. That is one of the more relaxing routes to drive. Among BBDEP (HGDEP in your case) routes, I'd hope to get deployed on this one if I am a service captain.

if am one, i wont mind sv170, sv284, sv354, or citybuzz, or feeder ones..

Surely feeders are wonderful to drive (especially 284, route so easy.), but I believe you will have to drive that feeder MANY times.

According to some guys who have copied timesheets, feeder drivers don't get much breaks in between trips. But no one will want Svc 14 at all. Neither would anyone attempt 51 or 61. Driving time far too much for S'porean to take. Just replying to the previous post actually. At the cost of a short trip, drive many, many times.

guys...dun go OFF-topic....it is about job-prospects of BCs and to gorby107....as our BCs really work hard, they deserved a better name, bus captain, as they do more den driving......anyway, if u read the news lately, SBST had raise basic pay from dunno how much to $1200, and the allowance differs according to the svc u drive and u get more if u drive DD or bendy, 2 drive this, u muz haf good records of abt 6-9mths and driving on Sun/PH oso get xtras(nt sure abt sat)....hmmm i onli noe up to here, mayb our carbikebus can provide us with more infomation...(BTW last time i oso wanna be BC, but now i DREAM to be CEO of a bus co. ..... HAHA

If you're talking about 103 then it's quite relaxing.165 weekends & Holidays timings are among the worst in SBST fleets

Ok let me clarified something to you'll Guys,If you had the qualification better to apply management post rather than BC/SCs.Can you bear the hectic timings,Public Complains,Demerit Points,Accidents(Touchwood),Attitude of other road users towards you and all other craps?
Ok if you insists here's the critiria
Those who only possesed Class 3 need to go for further training to obtain Class 4A(Including foreigners),Basic and practical training up to 4 weeks
Those with Class 4/5 Need to go for familiarastion training and obtain Vocational Licence but of course with higher basic pay than those 4A.
Don't forget that there are courses upon courses when you are apponited as a true Bus Captain
For me now i'm holding Class 2B/3/4

I really hope to see you driving DD bus one day like VO 3 axles or Trident. The greatest fear of any SC from BNDEP is to be deployed on 10, 14 or 196. All are long routes. Especially 14 on weekends. Orchard Rd can be a nightmare. the most feared short route is 181...always behind schedule with only 5mins break after each trip (which is usually "eaten up" ) -
i heard feeder rts salary differs from those long dist trunk svcs.. is it true? (due to hectic schedule, and more challenges)

For one, I don't think that being a bus driver is thinking small. If no one wants to be a bus driver, how would be able to get to our destination? And who are you to say that he did not go quite in depth abt buses...just keep quiet...as for you...CEO of a bus company...it's a long shot...and i mean long shot...at your age, just study and see how. You're still a kid alex. Maybe when you have achieved the necessary qualifications, job experience and maturity...then perhaps u stand a chance. But don't forget, there are many other suitable candidates too.
Deviate a little to what carbikebus said abt joining management. Well no doubt joining management is a better choice...but if you look at the job openings in the management position, it would require substantial job experience. bus captain are okay now adays. not like those old days have to carry long irons in case hire gangsters beat you up due to rivalary.
its okay job for those who like outdoor lives and meet people and provide service..
a lot of the malaysia and PRC are happy becasue their take home pay gives them comfortable living in malaysia and china for their families.
its a decent living with okay pay for many years.
can side line for private bus companies also. -
Adults don't dream unrealistically. I am not saying you don't have a right to dream. Sure you do. In a nutshell, what I am saying is 'Be realistic'.
And if you look at it this way, it's advice, isn't it. Concentrate on your studies first. Get that qualifications, get the necessary experience, and being a CEO requires immense maturity and ability to work under pressure. Hence I am not talking rubbish. It's probably sound advice most adults would give. And of course, there are so many graduates with MBA and work experience who are fighting for the same job. It's a competitive environment out there.
Does it make more sense to you right now? It seems that you too need to get my point before replying.
And before you accuse me of criticising people in public, maybe you could examine yourself. You made a critical comment on gorby107's knowledge of buses. So who are you to tell me off? You do not even practise what you preach. So save it.
Please also don't assume what I think or what I feel. You are not God, nor a psychiatrist or psychologist. I think I know myself better than you do.
I don't know why you maligned me for starting a war when I am speaking the truth. I see no harm in speaking the truth. It's only when you speak the truth, then other parties will have a chance to grow. Besides, most of my replies have good intentions behind them (basically what I was trying to give to you was advice, and encouragement to whoever who wants to be a bus driver, and if you don't believe that experience is required to work in mgmt level...you can check the sbs webby...all these are of good intentions...so you can engage in goal setting)

Svc 30? This one goes express along the Sheares Bridge. It has shorter headway than 51. The latter plies certain areas prone to congestion. SBS Transit Double-Decker allowances per day $4
SMRT buses Bendy allowances per day $8
SBST Monthly accident free bonus $80-6 Month acc free $380
SMRTB Monthly accident free bonus $120-150-6 month acc free $500(not sure)
SBST Starting basic pay $1200(Unlike previous $936-1000 depends on class of licence)
SMRTB Starting basic pay $654-755
SBST are prone to speed trap,Public complaints& Early arrivals SMRTB are quite relaxed in terms of regulation except for early arrivals
SBST bonuses are twice a year
SMRTB bonuses are thrice a year
SBST BC are quite relaxed in terms of working off day/Continued another shift/trip
SMRTB are quite hectic in term of being forced to work 2 shift/Off days due to shortage of manpower
Overall SBST BCs earn around $1.400-$2,500(salary twice a month)
Overall SMRTB SCs earn around $1,300-$2,300(salary twice a month)
Both are excluding CPF cut -
it is perfectly alright for one to dream... but to my own opinion next time will be lesser long distance buses if the MRT advanced til nearly everywhere also got

Can earn some money is good enough loh... Somehow, earning bread and butter in Singapore very difficult sia. However ah, to me, if I can earn a little to fill myself and my family members full, it's gd enough.
