Works is in progress for the construction of Clementi Temporary Interchange (infront of Blk 437 and 438.). The land has been cleared and a bus park is being built. -
Official notices put up at bus stops in Sembawang:
Sembawang Bus Interchange will start operations on 20 Nov 2005. 167, 859, 980, 981 & a new service 882 will operate from the interchange.
169, 856, 962 remains unchanged.
882 goes to Sembawang Park to replace the vacuum left by the shortened 167.
859, coming from Yishun, will go 1 big round within Sembawang before ending back at the new interchange. -

sembawang bus interchange will open on 20th november.bus services terminating at the new bus interchange are 167,859,882,980 and 981.
the new route for 167 would be from the new sembawang bus interchange sembawang vista,canberra rd ,canberra link,sembawang rd,the rest of the route remains unchanged.
the new route for 980 would be from sembawang bus interchange sembawang vista,sembawang dr,sembawang ave,the rest of the journey remains unchanged.
as for 882,the route would be from sembawang bus interchange,ply sembawang vista,canberra rd,canberra link,sembawang rd,then back at canberra link,canberra rd,sembawang vista and finally sembawang bus interchange.
859 route will be admended.the new route will be sembawang vista,canberra rd,admiralty lane,admiralty link,sembawang drive,admiralty drive,sembawang crescent .the rest of the route remains unchanged.
981 route will be extended.it will ply sembawang vista,sembawang dr,sembawang way,canberra rd.the rest of the route remains unchanged

Except for 859, all the proposed route changes for the new interchange have no significant benefits to S'wang residents. (For 859, it links up the entire S'wang town, benefitting those living in northern part of S'wang)Originally posted by SBS 233 X:Service 859 was amended to call at Sembawang Int.
S'wang really lacks direct links to the east (Hougang, Sengkang, Punggol, Pasir Ris, Tampines, Changi). SMRT has no incentive to detour 858, 969, 965 to S'wang and make the journey longer to and from W'lands.
Hope that SBST takes up the challenge, maybe extend 39. Don't think its justifiable to detour 161 and 168 to S'wang also. -

858, 965 and 969 uses Gambas Ave, which perhaps is the fastest link for Yishun and Woodlands residents to travel to and fro, intentionally skipping sembawang estate
meaning these 3 semi-express svcs are catered to benefit only yishun and woodlands residents, sembawang residents have no share in these services
if there is no Gambas Ave, these 3 svcs have to pass by sembawang
just like semi express sv 966 directly linking woodlands and eunos/marine parade via BKE and PIE
i won't be surprised in months to come, this service will make a detour to bt panjang estate
