With NEL getting into profitbility and SMRT Buses revenue shrinking due to ineffiencency... Swapping seems to be in the talk...
ComfortDelGro only wanna expand not swapOriginally posted by 105090:yeah.. the picture is getting clear.. the market is too small..
SMRT spokeswoman Ms Saw, even said SMRT will only acquire NEL if they were paid, but ComfortDelgro boss Mr Lim JP said they arent talking about selling, maybe buying (SMRT).
still.. its just a game by the government..government has high stakes in both companies.. so of cos, the profits still goes to their pockets, tho a restructuring excercise means better flexibility, better planning and more revenue to be earned.
Do note that ALL industries in SG is bound to have competitors.. so if talking bout monopoly of rail and bus, it sounds ironic!!
and yes.. Gov. wants a share in all industries, even recycling
also, it does not seems that even with 2 operators, there is competition as both operates diff areas and equities..
competition as in operating nearly parallel routes, with differences in fares. this scene is similar to petrol comapnies.. no competition at all.. and m not laughing..
Already only left 1 Tibs kaki in SMRTOriginally posted by iveco:SMRT should just spin off their bus ops as New Tibs Holdings. The old Trans Island management were certainly better. As I said before, not allowing SMRT total control over the subways was a gaffe.
SBST was smart. They brought in fully automatic trains for the NEL. SMRT's CCL will still be driver-operated.Originally posted by joelwinston2005:I don't think there is much problem SMRT controlling NEL. Now SMRT have control train, bus and cab service. They don't much resource to let them do that. They use their manpower for the train system. Same for SBS Transit.
Really?Originally posted by joelwinston2005:I thought i read in the ST that the CCL line is following SBST NEL using fully automatic train.
No. CCL trains are fully driverless, just like the NEL.Originally posted by iveco:Really?I remember a few years back, the news reported the CCL trains were normal ones, like the rest of the SMRT fleet. Just that their capacity was half of those serving EWL and NSL.
What I mean the person running...Originally posted by joelwinston2005:[quote]
Anyway, 1 rail operator that is SMRT will pose disaster to NEL

Only dif is that CCL is 3 carriage while NEL is 6 carriageOriginally posted by iveco:Really?I remember a few years back, the news reported the CCL trains were normal ones, like the rest of the SMRT fleet. Just that their capacity was half of those serving EWL and NSL.
Same model? holey...Originally posted by sbst275:Only dif is that CCL is 3 carriage while NEL is 6 carriage
Number of capacity, NEL is much much more based on distance if it is taken into factor
but NELs is beginning to make money liao... just give them a few more yrs.. ridership had went passed the 200,000 mark..Originally posted by sbst275:What I mean the person running...
If NEL losing $$ and have a boss like now, the frequency would be like 10 mins to make it into profitability
Hey but SBS monopoly days in 1970's was OKOriginally posted by SBS9828X:Same model? holey...
BTW i dun really agree wif the idea. With SBST having a monopoly, u couldnt imagine wat will happen. And now, gov is also playing a role here...
But having such a boss whats fat earningOriginally posted by sBs_boy:but NELs is beginning to make money liao... just give them a few more yrs.. ridership had went passed the 200,000 mark..
Then why was Tibs holdings set up at all?Originally posted by sbst275:Hey but SBS monopoly days in 1970's was OK
OTC felt need compeition... End up majority of Tibs rt were taken over rtsOriginally posted by iveco:Then why was Tibs holdings set up at all?
Yea but end up, system is dif...Originally posted by joelwinston2005:If anyone of us read the Straits Times
UBS Investment Research analyst Cheong Kwok Wing said that SMRT would not gain much by taking over the NEL, as its trains are different from those used on the other lines, and need different operating and maintenance skill.
In the few year times, SMRT is also using driverless train. They also need to learn how to using it right. If they really take over NEL they don't need start from scratch.
Except Yishun trunk and feeders, of course. Tibs also tried to link SKG with the city but SBST getting the NEL tender put paid to their expansion plans in the northeast.Originally posted by sbst275:OTC felt need compeition... End up majority of Tibs rt were taken over rts
And now, theres the gov 'interfering'Originally posted by sbst275:Hey but SBS monopoly days in 1970's was OK
