Only reason why ppl all drive there is because of the bus sv -

East Coast Park is within walking distance from Marine Parade town centre. If you go there on a weekday, just get any bus that goes to Parkway Parade and walk from there. The purpose of Svc 401 is to take the pressure off Marine Parade services on Sundays.

The service 401 itself is not that frequent, and that not many people use the svc 401 (I observed this for myself many times), while they chose the conventional Marine Parade svcs such as 196, 197.
To make the matter worse, the route design of service 401 itself is backfiring...It does NOT help AT ALL...anyone who take notice of its routing should know that it runs like a 40 first (maybe to supplement 40 and help the Siglap residents to get to the EC park easily), then the part of ECP which is not so popular, and then runs like a conventional MP route , then head to the Fort Road, and finally run back into the ECP, only to be a direct route back into Bedok...What a long route into ECP as compared to the conventional MP services......that is why virtually all these svc401 pax defect to the conventional MP services.
In all, I don't think 401 could help to relieve the stress of the MP services......unless it change the routing... to run into ECP FIRST...which may literally help both the 401 and Bedok. -
The reason 401 isnt useful is because there is a simpler and faster way by bus there rather than waiting for 401. Also, there are many ways of getting to East Coast Park in Marine Parade(Underpasses) The fast way is to take Sv13/16/196/608 to Marine Cres, and walk through Blks 27/28 and after that, there is an underpass and once you come out of it, you will find yourself in Marine Cove, while 401 from Parkway Parade is even longer than taking 196 from there.Other MP services arent of great help(if you are going to marine cove) as you have to alight opposite Tao Nan and crosss the overhead bridge, walk one big round around it and finally finding yourself @ a bus stop in Marine Cres.

reasons why 401 is not popular among beach-goers :
frequency kinda bad. i wait for the bus or i walk out to Marine Parade to take the other buses, same time anyway. frm ECP to Parkway Parade? wah very good. but frm Parkway Parade to ECP so far?! why ply Siglap Rd? ply the conventional Bedok South Rd, Bedok South Ave 1 leh.. den enter ECP quicker. can be used as a comparator. if 196 come 1st, i take 196. if 401 come first, i take 401 since they ply the same route and 401 goes to ECP some more. at TJC bus stop, ppl taking 12 frm Pasir Ris/Tampines can transfer to 401. on friday nights, i have to rely on the Marine Parade Road services.
i can safely tell u that most takers of service 401 are the "people who see the bus coming" and take the bus. they are not those who patiently wait for 401 at the bus stop. -
