I Refer to the letter, "SMRT buses help us know when to alight" (ST Dec 12), by Ms Lye Su-Min.
We are pleased to inform Ms Lye that SBS Transit is in the midst of developing a system for onboard bus destination signs which will alert commuters to approaching bus stops. It will be tested on a few services initally ....................................................................................................

If like that, which service would get those LED then
Parts of Chinatown, Orchard and Shenton Way as well.Originally posted by Robotics999:Those buses that go pass a stretch of bus stops but only stop a few one?
Example the stretch along Bugis/Parco where buses stop alternate and not every.
Do Singaporeans care? They want this but not willing to pay more for add services...Originally posted by dragg:another unnecessary gadget which will lead to price increase in the future.
They'll probably pamper it on VSOs. For all you know trial run on Citybuzz, NO!!!Originally posted by sinicker:personally, i am against it. waste of money. moreover, it doesnt inform u of the buildings around the bus stop but only the one beside or opposite the bus stop. moreover, passengers want such gadgets but wouldnt want to pay more for it. that's why i believe by my principle, don't take a bus if you do not know where to alight.
more importantly, we shouldnt discuss which services they would put this gadgets on. we shud discuss which bus models they would put this on!
The display should show 'Former Natl Lib'. LOL.Originally posted by phillipC:The display must update regularly, if not is simply useless. Which incur costs!
For example in 190, the national library has moved in Stamford road has moved for ages, but the SMRT 190 still show "Nat Lib" when approching that bus stop.
you know they won't update it.Originally posted by phillipC:The display must update regularly, if not is simply useless. Which incur costs!

The display follows the landmark as stated in the various SMRT service guides.Originally posted by kc_leung:you know they won't update it.
there was a related complaint in ST last week about the stop in Bt Batok which the SMRT bus LED showed as "Opp Orix Bldg" when in fact 1. the building was far away and not very noticable from the stop and 2. Orix wasn't even the tenant of the building any more.
another reason why any similar system by SBST will be an even bigger white elephant.![]()
Reason why SBS9888Y has its EDS destos removed & majority of the VSOs not using EDS destos?Originally posted by Apex-LW'21:Maintenance of such LEDs will be expensive anyway.![]()
SBST will pay more for its maintenance charges on those EDS destos that needs repairing if there is a fault on the display.Originally posted by samtlk:Reason why SBS9888Y has its EDS destos removed & majority of the VSOs not using EDS destos?![]()
But some service do not have service guidesOriginally posted by Donavan:They'll probably pamper it on VSOs. For all you know trial run on Citybuzz, NO!!!
imo LEDs aren't necessary. I rather take the svc guide/bus guide and then trace bus stop.
precisely. They need not use LEDs for passenger. They just need more guides from recycled paper. Ppl wants more innovation at 0 cost.Originally posted by Apex-LW'21:SBST will pay more for its maintenance charges on those EDS destos that needs repairing if there is a fault on the display.![]()
